Knorr Fired In Athens?

Post by Tommy Glantz Is A Sniper »

I'm told Ohio University's scheduled a 4PM news conference to discuss football. I'm just guessing on the Knorr part, but what else would it be?

No links or anything, I don't see it on the web anywhere, but this is what my sources are telling me. We shall see.

He's been there since 2001.

11-35 overall record, 8-24 in the MAC.

Oh, my bad. When Hail Peden came in her blabbering about their new devastating offensive scheme, I assumed it was installed by a new head coach. After seeing the Slobcats flame out as the season progressed, it wouldn't surprise me to see them can Knorr.

Did anyone else watch the Ohio-Toledo game? That may be the moment the fates turned for both teams. Ohio's D looked awesome in the first half and UT looked generally incompetent. The second half saw the Slobcats implode and the Rockets do anything they d**n well pleased. The rest, as they say, is history. And, perhaps, so his Knorr.

Maybe the presser is just to announce they're going to implement the 12th different offensive scheme they've run in the last 8 years next season.

How strange is it that their season is done already? Or when you're as bad as OU, do they just show some mercy and give you the bye week at the end of the year?

it has been no secret all season that Knorr's house has been for sale and they want him out in Athens. I think the changing of the offense was a desperation move. The guy can't coach.

Ohio Football Coach Brian Knorr to be Relieved of Duties
Contact: Derek Scott

11/18/2004

ATHENS -- Ohio University Director of Athletics Thomas Boeh announced that head football coach Brian Knorr has been relieved of his duties during a Thursday press conference.

“This was a very difficult decision,” said Boeh. “At Ohio, we expect our coaches and staff to lead by example, consider the needs of student-athletes first and continually promote the values of integrity, academic success and good citizenship. On that count, Coach Knorr has served most honorably and his work has truly been appreciated.

“However, given the pattern that has emerged relative to the football team’s overall competitive success during the past several years, it has been determined that a change in leadership will serve in the best interest of the program and help our student-athletes realize complete success in the future.”

Knorr recently completed his fourth season as head coach of the Bobcats. He compiled a record of 11-35 during that period, including a 4-7 mark during the 2004 season. Ohio was 1-10 in his first season in 2001 before posting a 4-8 record in 2002 and a 2-10 mark in 2003.

“If we are to be true to our goal of enhancing the profile and level of recognition across all aspects of the institution, we must dedicate ourselves to establishing and maintaining excellence across the board,” said Ohio University President Dr. Roderick McDavis. “This includes developing a competitive football program realistically able to compete for a conference championship and postseason play.”

Knorr was named Ohio’s 27th head coach on December 12, 2000, being promoted from the defensive coordinator position on the Bobcats’ staff. He came to Athens prior to the 1995 season as a member of Jim Grobe’s coaching staff and spent ten years as a part of the Ohio football program.

The university will honor the remaining year of Knorr’s original five-year contract.

Ohio will begin a national search immediately for Knorr’s replacement, with plans to engage a consultant to work with a university committee for the successful completion of the search process.

Peden Stadium is a beautiful setting. The entire OU campus is nice. How they can stink so badly at so many major sports is a mystery to me given their surroundings.

They, like WMU, should always be a threat .
