October 18th - the day to beat the jinxes

Post by bgsufalcon24 »

When Bowling Green takes the field on October 18th against the Miami Redhawks, they will be up against far more than the Miami Redhawks, oh yes. They will be up against several jinxical demons as well.

1.The Home Hex. First off, BG is 0-2 at Doyt Perry Stadium this year. They will be looking to get their first win of the season at home. That's the readily obvious one.

2.The Miami Whammy. This is a curse that has lingered on and off over the years. Miami is the only MAC team that has an all-time winning record against Bowling Green. They are something like 41-19 all time against the Falcons. Miami has won the last 2 meetings against Bowling Green, including a 47-14 romp in Oxford last year. Historically, this is not a matchup that favors BG, as any true BG fan will tell you.

3.The Parent Weekend Jinx. This is a fairly recent development, but the statistics accompanying it are startling. BG has played like crap on Parent Family Weekend the last 3 years. They lost 45-14 to Western Michigan in 2005, 38-3 to Kent State in 2006, and 38-27 to Ohio last year (the only loss at the Doyt in 2007). What's striking is that none of these games were even close. Whether this is coincidence or whether there is something psychological at work, Bowling Green has to get over this too.

Needless to say, the intangibles are working against us this weekend. We just need to focus on the task at hand and get a win this Saturday, no matter what.

We trail Miami, 19-40 in the series. We actually did pretty well in the 90's against MU but are only 1-8 in our last 9 games with them.

BEAT MIAMI

Actually, the series stands at 40-19-5 overall, in favor of Miami. BG has lost eight of the last nine games in the series including the last four games at Doyt L. Perry Stadium. The Falcons' last win at home at home against the RedHawks was back in 1997. We are just due for a win here, not only to stop the bleeding vs. Miami, but the fact that we're 0-2 at home this year as well. For those who think Miami won't be much of a challenge this year because they are only 1-5 on the season, think again. The last time the RedHawks were in BG they came into town just 1-9 and won in the "Mud Bowl." I can still see Ellis slipping in the mud and watching that kick sail sideways..... :smt076

Time to end the MIAMI WHAMMY!!!!!
GO BG!!!

That OU game was closer than it looked in the final score. Didn't one guy cough up two punts?
Oh, who am I kidding? We're cursed!
I say we sacrifice a chicken hawk on the field on Saturday to extricate ourselves from this horrible scourge.

Yeah, friggin Zach Charles fumbled away a punt in the 2nd quarter that led to an OU touchdown. Down 35-20 with under 4 minutes left, BG scored on a 45-yard screen to Dan Macon to make it 35-27, then forced OU to go 3-and-out. Just when it looked like BG was going to get the ball back and probably tie the game, Charles fumbled AGAIN, sealing the game for the Bobcats.

That was a bitter night, one that would ultimately cost us a trip to Detroit.

i suggest we play to our strengths. A falcon should be MUCH faster than a hawk.

Zach Charles..... I'm not one to normally throw kids under the bus, but...... No name in recent BG history inspires more anger in me than that one....
