MAC Bowl Scenario

From CFN:
Motor City Bowl: Northern Illinois vs. Minnesota
GMAC Bowl: Miami vs. Memphis
Silicon Valley Classic: Bowling Green vs. Fresno State
This scenario assumes Miami defeats Akron and Bowling Green defeats Toledo. It is hard to see any bowl being interested in a 6-5 Akron team or a 7-4 Toledo squad so it becomes imperative for the Rockets and Zips to win their games to have a shot at post-season play.
I pretty much agree with the three MAC teams listed. Bottom line is, BG must beat Toledo to likely assure itself a spot in a bowl. If BG loses to UT, it probably loses out on a bowl spot too. This is our second chance.....BEAT TOLEDO!!!!

I think Fresno fans may be as bad as Marshall fans.
I'd root for a fourth bid, but that would mean UT or Marshall goes bowling. I'd rather they stay home. If the MAC does well with three bids, it helps Toronto and the group in Indiana get sponsors for their games.

Motor City Bowl: BGSU vs. Minnesota
GMAC Bowl: Miami vs. Memphis
Silicon Valley Classic: NIU vs. Fresno State
MCB wants butts in the seats, well after last year they know we can put them there... also it is closer. More fans are likely to show if the game is not horribly far away. I can not make a trip to Cali, but I can go to the Armpit of the midwest.
I think the other two can flip flop depending on who is in the championship and wins. With the current standings if NIU wins GMAC may take a 3 loss NIU over Miami. If Miami wins they will retake the redhawks.
Well if BG makes it to the championship with a NIU loss and a BG win. We still go to the MCB

SICSIC ... I understand your logic (i.e. MCB wants attendance), but don't you think that Northern would draw a good crowd for that game, too? True, BG drew well last year, but I think the Huskies would put quite a few fans in the seats there, too.

unless we accept the GMAC bid right after the toledo game, which is when i'd expect it to be offered.

I'd rather we go and beat Fresno St. again. I figure we still owe them two more beatings.

And severe beatings at that.

MCB also wants heads in beds--hotel beds--and may like that angle with NIU.

Isn't that the truth. '91 was a GREAT win over Fresno St. But I still get shudders thinking of what happened in '85. That was one of the worst games I've ever seen...at any level.
And blowing a 28-7 lead going into the 4th quarter in '82 was gut wrenching...BG lost 29-28 with FSU scoring their last points with 11 seconds left. Ouch.
Although Bulldog Stadium in Fresno looks like a pretty cool place.

BGfanUT, I believe, has it right with GMAC. If we win Tuesday, it is entirely possible for us to receive that bid that evening and accept it. If other games go as many feel, you would likely see NIU in MCB and Miami in San
Jose.
If we win, that looks like a line up.
If we lose, we have to get some help from bowl committees and/or bowl slots. Could be some possibilities for sure.
Of course, I expect a W followed by a street fight with Southern Miss in Mobile. Following that win, we are ranked 18th and polish off our best recruiting class yet! Hey, I can dream can't I? Sometimes they do come true.
Go Falcons!

I think a "W" on Tuesday builds a solid case for calling us the MAC's top team regardless of the participants in the MACC. The GMAC has taken first crack at the bowl eligibles the last few years. I think they'll take us.

I like the Fresno St. BGSU match-up.. brings back memories for the good ol' California Raisin bowl.. we're 1 and 1 in Raisin Bowls by the way.. both played against FSU

We played Fresno State in 1982, 1985 and 1991. Lost the first two. Won the last one.
I thought the term "Raisin Bowl" was only used for the very last year. Anyone know for sure? For most of the 1981-91 span of the bowl, it was just "California Bowl," I thought.
Anyway, yeah, I agree with you. I never saw one of those old Cal Bowls in person. I feel like this is a second chance. I'd be really happy with this matchup. I sense most of us want to see the game played in Detroit again... but I want to travel.

Selfishly, I'd like to see BG go back to MCB to play so I could go. But, go wherever your getting paid.
