Rumor from up North is that Amstutz will meet with the AD tomorrow and give his resignation.

Sources? I've not heard any wind of this, but I could believe it.

Just thought I would check out the UT board, and looks like they are thinking the same thing?

In a selfish way, I hope he sticks around for a while. There's no coach in the conference that's easier to heckle.

Tom Amstutz has taken Toledo to four bowl games in eight seasons as the Rockets head coach, but the man affectionately known as "Toledo Tom" will be stepping down as the school's coach in a Monday morning press conference, sources have confirmed.

Amstutz, who is in year four of a five-year deal, will announce his future plans at a joint press conference with Toledo athletic director Mike O'Brien, according to a source inside the program. The 53-year-old former Toledo offensive lineman is being re-assigned within the school's athletic department, sources say.

This year has been an up-and-down season for the Rockets, who were coming off consecutive losing seasons. The Rockets opened with a blowout 41-16 loss to Arizona, turned it around routing Eastern Michigan 41-17 on the road and then almost knocked off Fresno State before falling in double overtime 55-54. On Oct. 11, the Rockets won at Michigan 13-10. However at just 2-6, the school felt it was the right time to make the move.

Toledo ranks near the bottom in almost every team stat the NCAA keeps. The Rockets are 84th in rushing, 79th in passing and 99th in defense. The Rockets play at Akron on Nov. 5.

Wow, I can honestly say I didn't see this coming. I thought for sure UT would honor his contract. Will he be there for the rest of the season or will he be stepping down immediately?

Being reassigned might be a nice way of saying they are buying out his contract. With one year left this may be the cheaper option. Wow its going to be weird not seeing a fat cow wearing a whistle on that opposing sideline Nov. 28th.

I mean fat cow in the nicest way possible. He really is a big man.

That, or maybe reassigning him is part of a deal to avoid the buyout? Don't know if it works that way, just a thought.

All I've heard so far is that he's stepping down at the end of the season. I guess we'll know for sure tomorrow.

I'd say there are more factors in play. UT is in the NCAA dog-house for poor graduation/grades. That has hurt them in recruiting. They are assured a third losing season. They've lost four home games in a row, with BG yet to visit. There are problems with players off the field. There are the issues related to betting and former players.

UT also has new leadership having been bought, I mean, having merged with MCO. They might be as locked into low-rent thinking that says the guy should have a few more years due to having a couple of titles.

If they do it right, it could be a handy model to other schools.....

Probably, but not statistically. We're 2 and 6 with four games to go. Miami visits before BG. Do you really think any home team is likely to lose to Miami ? And the Med school has already helped recruiting much as your engineering school has helped you.

Well let's hope that they can band together and win one more for Ole' Tom....especially against AKRON.

Question to Northwest Ohio AZZers, are Toledo Away games usually televised on a local channel and available at most sports bars? Any suggestions for Perrysburg-area? I am going to be there on business for this week.

Thanks
