I have read a little of the NCAA site explaining APR and where we stand in that, but still don't really understand in terms of comparing it to other teams. I need someone to explain to me.

Seems that I read somewhere in the GB firing articles, that BG is losing NINE FB scholarships over next 2 yrs. WHEN was this info released previously? I don't recall reading anything other than a partial lost schol. for the soccer team.

If this loss of NINE scholarships is indeed true, it obviously was another arrow that GC needed to shoot at GB....bad enough to lose 4 games you were leading in the 4th Q., worse to have numerous players quit/leave/transfer etc., even worse to have several of those players convicted of crimes, either felonies or misdemeanors...and the final straw.... not graduating your players, which didn't used to be a problem at BG.

The info was not released anywhere prior to Saturday. I understand that these things are normally announced in the spring, but the schools know before that.

How many kickers left the program? That has to hurt the APR.

That was MY point too....never heard about this until now....as to someone's thoughts on losing the kickers...I'm pretty sure that, when a kid transfers out in good academic standing, it doesn't count against your APR, but think about two kids going to Del. St., and several other kids no longer in school, (LB from Fla., RB from Walsh Jes. etc.) If THESE kids also had grade problems, and I was under the impression that several of them were, then the APR takes a big hit. Sad thing is like I referred to earlier... this didn't used to be a problem, at least a major one, for us, until recently...that's why GC perhaps almost HAD to pull the trigger, on top of all the other more publicized problems.

According to the BGNews Article that Falcon Fanatic linked kids leaving DOES effect the APR even if they are in good academic standing when they leave. It makes it sound pretty simple. Each athlete can earn 2 points. 1 is for good academic standing, and 1 is for returning to the institution. So if a kid leaves in good standing we would lose 1 point. If he leaves in poor standing we'd lose 2 points. In order to score well in the APR your kids must stay and be in good academic standing. I'd hate to think what our hoops APR has been over the years, given how poorly we've retained players along with having some kids fail out as well.

Waco, Texas - BGSU is one of thirty-four institutions that is being recognized by the American Football Coaches Association for graduating 70 percent or more of their football student-athletes. The remaining 33 institutions are: Alabama, Arkansas State, Ball State, Baylor, Boston College, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Duke, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana Tech, Miami (Ohio), Mississippi State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Northwestern, North Carolina, Ohio, Penn State, Rice, Rutgers, Syracuse, Texas, TCU, Texas Tech, Toledo, Troy, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Washington State and Wisconsin.

"We are very pleased to be included in that group," said BGSU football coach Gregg Brandon. "We are proud of the success we have had on the field, but even prouder of the type of kids who are taking advantage of this great opportunity in the classroom as well."

The overall graduation rate of the 107 schools that responded to the survey was 60 percent, surpassing the mark of 58 percent in each of the previous two years. Fifty-two of the members responding were above the average and 55 were below the average. The median graduation rate was 59 percent, compared to 57 percent for the last two years. The 107 respondents to this year's survey is a record high. One hundred and four schools replied in 2006.

The study involves the freshman class from the academic year of 2001-2002, including those who entered at that time but who did not receive financial aid until after their initial year, or who transferred from another institution and subsequently received a grant-in-aid.

Conference Breakdown: Atlantic Coast (5), Big 10 (5), Mid-American (5), Big East (4), Big 12 ( 4), Southeastern (4), Sun Belt (2), Conference USA (1), Independent (1), Mountain West (1), Pac-10 (1), Western Athletic (1).

BG was honored quite often for this award in the last 10 years...
