Looks like GC may need to find some extra money when hiring a new head coach. Beckman got $360,000 at UT.
If we're going to compete, you know, you get what you pay for

Ha ha, yes Toeldo sucks. $360,000 when the university is facing $7 million in budget cuts next year alone? Forget about it! Am hearing terrible rumors about the kinds of things being discussed at today's BOT meeting.

Whose BOT meeting? Theirs or ours? And don't tease us, share, be friendly and enlighten us!

You can live like a king in Toledo on a $360K salary. Get a really nice house in Ottawa Hills to stay away from the bad crime areas, and live like a friggin' king.
The cost of living in Northwest Ohio is so dang cheap. Once you move away you find that out.

This may have something to do with the post I sent out last week re: BGSU's main entrance sign on Ch. 5 news in Cleve. with something to the effect that there were tough financial things afoot. I couldn't read the CCapt. from where I was across the room, but some folks sent things back to me talking about the foreign students fee waivers being eliminated.... obviously, this is MUCH more than that issue.

BG is in debt because they give out over 2.5 million per year in free education to the foreign students. I have nothing against foreign students but to give people from Japan, China, Russia a free ride needs to stop. NO OTHER COLLEGE IN OHIO NO LONGER DOES THIS. UT, OSU, Miami, all stopped this many years ago. It is time for BG to step up and no longer offer free education. If it means they lose 500 students per year so be it. All it does it raise increase rates for other students.

Here is the link about BG going in debt 2 million per year due to free rides.

Found that out real quick when I moved to Denver after graduating from Bowling Green in 98...

Internationa Programs is NOT responsible for the financial situation of the university. It's a lot more complicated than that, so let's not delude ourselves that the foreign students caused the problem and we can solve it if we just make them pay.
From the BG paper:
Without providing any details, Harbal said, "there are things we're doing now that we won't be doing two, three or six months from now. We're going to have to adjust."

C'mon...let's just blame the foriegners and move on already...

Maybe we could just blame Canada...
It was stupid to give fee waivers to all of these students beyond what was budgeted for the program, but to cut kids off midway is wrong too because I think BGSU should keep its commitments, no matter how informally we made them.
I'm really nervous about the next few years.
