Sports letters: firing Brandon wrong

The firing of coach Gregg Brandon came as a total shock to many of us in northwest Ohio and, yes, even across the country.

How could a university release a coach of high stature and compassion, who boasts an overall record of 44-30 and 31-17 in the Mid-American Conference? The answer lies in two words: Greg Christopher.

As a major contributor to Falcons football since coach Urban Meyer, my wife and I have been very involved in the daily progress and setbacks this program has gone through and the progressions have outnumbered the setbacks.

Christopher would like the public to believe it's due to off-field problems, attendance problems.

My wife and I have attended hundreds of practices and at the end of each and every one, Brandon would stress hitting the books, attending classes and going to study groups.

As a final bit of misfortune for Brandon, Dr. Sidney Ribeau left as president and Christopher took full advantage of his absence to move on Brandon's dismissal.

With all of this in mind, my wife and I (after completing pledge monies) will no longer support any athletic endeavors at BGSU and ask other supporters, fans and alumni to boycott all revenue-raising sport activities until the university cleans its dirty house with the removal of Christopher and return integrity, honesty and class as we had with the previous athletic director. We must restore respectability to our beloved BGSU.

BG's Ward deserves better

My intention is to rally the BG community of football fans to express their feelings for Mike Ward to the administration of BG.

When the head coach gets fired, all coaches fall in line. Ward doesn't deserve this type of action. He bleeds orange and brown.

The man is the reason why my son, Sean O'Drobinak, came to BG from Crown Point, Ind.

Ward is the backbone of the recruiting process in his area given. His recruits stay at BG, not like other areas of recruiting for BG football.

The man is a pillar in his community of Bowling Green. He has given his all to football and the community. He is articulate, personable, groomed, passionate, intelligent and a family man. He is the type of leader you need to stay and help the program in this transition. He is an asset.

We need people to rally to support his stay at BG by calling, writing, e-mailing or dropping by the athletic department to express our love for coach Mike Ward.

OSU end zone funny

I am not mad at Matt Markey for his comments on the Buckeyes of the past.

I'm upset because as I was reading his article Wednesday morning in my comfortable chair, with my favorite quilt wrapped around me, and I spit my coffee out all over both.

I was in tears I was laughing so hard. I'm a history major. So I understood all you were saying and I have never laughed harder then in my life.

Great article. Keep up the good work.

Cougars showed 'em

The "upstart" Southview Cougars sure showed those biased television announcers a thing or two about football in the state championship.

Reading the letter from Mr. O'Drobinak just makes it all the more disappointing to see that Coach Ward is going to Toledo. :x

It would seem that GC just wants to clean house...it may not be entirely fair to coach Ward, but given all the problems that seem to have been brewing here ( APR, off field crimes) I can see why he would want to do that.

It looks like the Blade's Editor is a tad less lenient than his/her counterpart at the Sentinel. (BTW, the comments in response to this in the online edition of the Sentinel are wonderful.) Unfortunately for them, the thousands of empty seats carried a bit more weight.

The fact that two people not named Pickens or Knight think they can dictate the decisions of an entire athletic department is pretty funny.
