Parking Restrictions at UT

Speculation on the Rocket board is that they are going to announce some special parking restrictions for the game Tuesday. For one, Lot 25 will not be open. Another is that is that they will use the Westgate Shopping Area as a "remote" lot and have Tarta busses shuttle fans back and forth. That is not a big deal, but this is. They are going to tell BG fans that they are not allowed to park on campus and will have to park in the Westgate lot. I think they are setting themselves up for some tempers boiling over and something bad to happen because of it.

I'd say that ranks right up there with the "Gameday is coming to UT" rumor floated on that same board...

I will attempt to park in lot 25. If I get turned away, I'll go to the Westfield or whatever the heck it is. I'm looking to attend a freakin game, not engage in a gang fight.

Freak, I hear what you are saying. But if I was a BG student going up to the game, was trying to park where everyone else was, and got told I couldn't park there, that I had to go a mile away just because I was a BG fan, wouldn't that get you just a little upset? Especially after imbibing a few adult beverages? I would like to say our fans wouldn't cause problems, but it is human nature to get mad :x when being discrimated.

If your asked to park elsewhere, make sure you find out how much police will be present to protect vandalism. We've already seen that they don't mind vandalism.

No mention of "Westgate parking for BG fans" in this announcements on the UT athletics website.

WH,
And I see what you're saying. To me, it isn't worth it getting into a mess just to park for a damn game. I'm there to see BG whoop UT.
And I can only control myself.

Relax people...UT is just lining up an alternate parking area because so many student lots will be taken for a mid-week game with school in session. And they say they don't have parking problems!!

The UT people on their message board are just adding the part about BG fans required to go there to try and get under your skin and you are falling for it. There is no legal basis for someone to restrict parking in a public lot solely because you are from another county, have a certain color of shirt on, or go to a certain university, unless everyone was restricted to the lot.

They could only suggest that you might want to try another lot for convenience. Besides, your cars are probably a lot safer at Westgate anyway.

I just read on their board that someone called the ticket office and was told that they knew nothing of such a plan. So I called there too just to verify and my question was met with surpise. The nice lady I talkied to said that all fans can park in any of the general football lots after 4 pm and directed me to this information: Lots 1,2 East parking garage, Lots 19, 20 (near Dorr and Oakwood), Lots 25/26 near Secor and Dorr, and Lots 12, 13 & west parking garages--There are also grass lots at Secor and Towerview Blvd. (in from of Law School), on Bancroft and University Hills (across from the Driscoll Alumni Center and on Bancroft (across from University Hall). I suppose it is possible that they are making contingency plans for Westgate for overflow parking if all of the above are filled. She suggested that you arrive at their main entrance and they will direct you-that would probably be a good idea if you are arriving after 5.

Would Brown vs. the Board of Education of 1954 be in effect here? That "seperate but equal is inherently unequal?" Yeah, thats all, Jeff

TU was going to institute a literacy test for parking, but that would prevent most of their starters from getting on campus, so the plan was scrapped.
