Apparently according to ESPN.com, Ball State coach Brady Hoke is going to San Diego State.
Talk about a lateral move, not even a lateral move.

The only way it's a lateral move is if you look where the programs are right now. Big picture SDSU has a higher ceiling. Located in SoCal and in the state of California where there are hundreds of division 1 recruits to go around and I'd imagine it's much easier to pull a kid to San Diego than Muncie. Definitely not a lateral move in terms of conference affiliation, MWC is clearly a step above the MAC. Plus there's that whole would you rather live in San Diego or Muncie thing...yeah I know which one I'd pick

Denny Stolz thinks he should wait a couple weeks to announce this.

Completely agree. This is very similiar. Unless SDSU unloaded the Brinks truck, it is a lateral move. Maybe Brady will also be the golf coach.

San Diego is the best city in the country. If I was going to make hundreds of thousands of dollars I would be there over anywhere else. This is in no way a lateral move.

It also costs way more to live there than anywhere else. Probably not a problem for Brady since they would have to shell out to get him out there.

I wonder if Aaron Mershman from Bowling Green HS would reconsider going to Ball State next year if the coach moves out to the land of mud slides, fires, and wild police chases?

You forgot hot chicks and great weather.
San Diego State needs all the help it can get...

Given it's local and access to high school athletes in Southern Cal, you'd think they'd be a dominate player in the MWC, but that's not been the case. The last few coaches have left San Diego in disgrace. The Aztecs are a mystery. Unless Mr. Hoke has the magic formula, I'd advise him to steer clear of SDSU.

I don't think there's a magic formula. SDSU has just hired poor head coaches. A good head coach who knows how to recruit can get it done there, it's been proven in the past.

Report has him making $700K. Not bad for a 34-38 career record.

This is in no way, shape or form a "lateral move". It's a bigger school, a better conference, a bigger media market and a much bigger paycheck.

Exactly. People need to quite being bitter about coaches leaving the MAC and just accept the reality that being a MAC coach is a stepping stone job for them including to jobs in other non-BCS leagues.

Looks like a Jim Christian situation to me.
Hoke will regret this decision about once a week next year when the Aztecs struggle to win three games, but he'll be better for it in the long run.
