Between this fellow and the Richmond DC, it looks like he's targeting people he's personally worked with and trusts for the big picture schematic roles and will leave the Ohio recruiting ties criteria for the position coaching hires.

According to today's Blade article by Ryan, Coach Hunter and Coach Phillips were retained by Coach Clawson.

Makes sense. I've talked to a couple of kids getting recruited by both BG and UT and they mentioned that Phillips was staying. Ironic how the lone guy on your staff from UT will be the one staying there.

Of all the assistant coaches, why was he at the top of your list of keepers? Just curious.

I agree with him. Coach Hofher is a VERY intelligent man and knows what he is doing. The quarterbacks built a relationship with him after McCall left and it just sucks that they now will have to build a relationship and trust with another coach, yet again.

Good question....I've been wondering the same thing....not to mention the hits our recruiting has taken, especially from the school up North (which isn't surprising, considering the coaching switches from BG to UT)...and, even if this is supposed to be the "quiet period" for recruiting, didn't think it applied to new coaching hires too.

Of course, many guys are still tied up with Bowl games...which could cause some of this.

I would rather have Coach Clawson take the time and get the RIGHT people, but at the same time, they certainly can not lose a recruiting class in the process. I would think that anyone he brings in may well have a player or two that might follow, which might be good in the long run.
I wonder what Coach Clawson's thoughts are on the "verbals", and especially the ones that have left. I would guess he is being very careful to sort out anyone with any "issues" in their background.

You would have thought that some of the guys on Richmond's staff would have been candidates to come here, but their season ended over a week ago and still no word on any of them. :?
