Are things actually getting better? more level?

I was thinking about tonights game and the fact that both of these teams kept their coaches. Both TCU and Boise have had consistent success but have been able to hang on to their coaches. Is this a sign of things changing for the future or just an oddity due to their subjective circumstances. The Biggest jobs available were Auburn, Tennessee, Washington, Clemson, Kansas State, Mississippi State, Purdue and Syracuse. All BCS teams. Yet Utah's,TCU's, Boise State's and even Cincinnati's coaches remained untouched for another year after having steady success. BYU's should probably get mentioned here as well.
Purdue had already handpicked their new coach so we can take them off the list. Tennessee and Washington both hired high profile assistants so they are off too. Kansas State returned to a legacy coach so they are off too. That leaves Auburn, Clemson, Miss State and Syracuse.
Maybe to a successful developing program Syracuse and Miss State are considered lateral moves. That leaves Clemson and Auburn. Clearly these two are are steps up for any of those 5 candidates. I know that TCU's coach interviewed at Auburn. Auburn and Clemson eventually went with known commodities.
My question is was it a case of not enough jobs for candidates and these guys and they will eventually move on when the right job finds its way to them (with more and more teams naming the successor to their current hc that seems like an intriguing future development). Or was it a case of these candidates feeling at home in their current environment for whatever reason and deciding to stay and make their mark on their current school? Are we seeing a situation developing where a very good head coach could choose to stay at BG and watch us develop, or should we expect success and sayonara?
