Just heard on ESPN radio that the automakers may be pulling out of their Motor City Bowl sponsorship due to their financial problems.

They interviewed George Perles last night on the broadcast and he said Chrysler had already dropped and they replaced them with one of the Unions, and they had plans, should the others drop, but he expected the bowl game to continue.

Oh, good, I missed that interview - so I wonder why ESPN is saying otherwise. Looked like the attendance was good. Too bad CMU couldn't get it done last night.

According to the box score, the attendance was 41,399...which is pretty damn good all things considered. It was CMU's 3rd straight MCB appearance, FAU was 6-6 coming in and probably didn't bring a whole lot of fans and we all know what the Detroit area is going thru right now. 41,000+ is very good, IMO>

I would hope that with all the fin issue of the day, about 1/2 of the bowls would fold, and in so doing some other changes would be made, such as some mulit sponsors of fewer bowls, and in the end just fewer bowls.

Not sure where I read it, but supposedly FAU brought about 100 fans! (so much for guarantees)...and it wasn't their own band that was playing...they "rented out" a Mich. HS Band to play for them.

The only thing George Perles can ever do, is first talk about how they wanted a Big Ten team in the game, how he wishes that team could have been Michigan State, and what the question was.

The bowl is well run. Despite being in Detroit they've had strong support locally, and the games have generally been very fun to watch. I do think they would be well advised to drop the Motor City title and try to come at it from another direction. Or at least get Toyota to sponsor the game!

We may see a few games struggle or fail, but odds are we won't see fewer when all is said and done. The world is settling into the reality that playoffs won't happen and that bowls are a long-term fixture of college football.

Maybe, but its a Toilet that never clogs and gets 40 MPG.

Motor City Bowl is close enough to Toilet Bowl already.

Yep all these college football games bug me. Why would I want to watch college football when I could watch Maury holler "You are the father!"

Because the networks put on all their best shows at the end of December, these stupid college football games just clutter up stuff. What if The Mentalist got postponed? Terrrible. Less college football is a great idea and one that is sure to catch on with college footbal fans.

There are too many bowls but I love college football too much not to watch. There have been a lot of great games so far this bowl season and I plan on watching every one of them thru the BCS title game and Urban's 2nd BSC National Title.
