Bowling Green vs. TROY 2009

Hello everyone,

My name's Greg and I am a TROY graduate. I'm a die hard Trojan and I'm very excited about this game. In recent years, TROY has used its OOC games to play major BCS programs inorder to build up our athletic facilities and get our name out there. However, we've done that dance and now we're starting to schedule more fellow mid-major games. Thus we have yall on the schedule for 2009.

I think our two conferences have more in common than any other two mid-majors. We're both in the shadow of major BCS conferences, we are both continually fighting for recruits and respect, and we're both solid in multiple sports. I think the MAC and the Sun Belt should be playing more games against one another.

This coming season, TROY will be a very loaded team offensively. We run a very effective spread attack. Our QB is probably the best QB we've ever had come through. Levi Brown has an amazing arm, great accuracy, and is smart with the football. he will be a first day draftee. Our receiving corps is better than most in the SEC. Jerrel Jernigan is a phenom, no other way to put it. We now have Oklahoma transfer Josh Jarboe (#3 receiver in the nation coming out of HS), and several other weapons for Levi to throw to. RB DuJuan Harris was a HS all-american who won three gold medals in the US highschool olympics, he's whoa fast.

Anyways, just wanted to drop in and say hello. We'd love to host any and all of you over at our official board. www.gotroytrojans.com, so please stop by! I go by the same name there.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing the info about Troy. As soon as we figure out what we can expect from our team this year, we'll let you know.

Unfortunately, that will probably be October.

I agree. It seems as if we have a pretty darn good class coming in and with the new coach things are looking up, but we wont know until we play a game.

Welcome to AZZ!

I'll be interested to see what we get out of Tyler Sheehan now that we aren't running the ridiculous Gregg Brandon offense of QB draws and WR screens. From what I have seen, Clawson runs a pro-style offense, but alters it to fit the players he has. I have heard he is also a fantastic teacher, having coached Brian Westbrook, Brian Finneran and Tim Hightower. I am very optimistic about this season

New to the BG board and just thought I'd add a little interesting tid-bit...

Levi Brown was one of Coach Clawson's first recruits when he was at Richmond. He transferred to Troy after Eric Ward, who just led UR to the FCS championship, got entrenched as the starter a couple of years ago.

Welcome to the board and thanks for the info. Should make for an interesting sidebar to Coach Clawson's first game at BG.

Hey Murphdogg---that "rediculous" offense of Brandon's will be run at Virginia this year. We'll see how "rediculous" it is. It was good enough for 30 points a game here with 2 star recruits. Here's to hoping Clawson can put up 30 points a game. I hope he can get it done for us.

I'm glad to see two of the more successful mid major programs over the last few years getting together. It's kind of like a Bracket Buster for football. Now, if we could get Utah, Boise State and TCU on board... But the Mountain West is barely even a mid major anymore

I hate when people point out transfers as a reason to why they will be good. Sam Huston St. (or something like that) got Rhett Bomar from OU and they are not winning at the 1AA level. Ryan Periloux from LSU goes to Jacksonville St. and they are not winning there either. There is a reason why teams will let a player go. I agree it sounds impressive on paper, but until the game comes around we will see. All this talk about your offense makes me wonder if anyone show up to play D.

Levi Brown is a great story. He left Richmond like someone else said. Sittin at home in Nashville back in 2006 he watched TROY play Rice in the New Orleans Bowl. We killed the Owls, and Brown said, "I want to play in that offense." Well, he came to TROY University and walked on to the team. This past season, he started off as our 3rd string guy behind dual-threat QB Jamie Hampton (who decommited from Purdue to come play in our offense) and another QB who didn't deserve to be over Levi. Hampton went down due to a dirty hit on his knee against the FAU Owls. Levi stepped in and lit up the scoreboard. He proved he should have been the starter from the beginning. Many sports analysts say he is probably the best QB to EVER play in the Sun Belt. great arm strength, top-notch accuracy, great decision making. His mobility leaves a bit to be desired, but he releases the ball so fast that he rarely gets sacked.

TROY has been ranked at the 10th best non-BCS program in the country by ESPN. We feel we deserve that ranking. I'm really looking forward to this game. I think the Sun Belt and the MAC should be scheduling each other much more often. I'd like to see every MAC and Belt team to have atleast one game against the other conference each year. We are the most closely related conferences in the country, it's time we see who is better.

Kudos to the Trojans for their scheduling, probably one reason they are rated as one of the better mid majors. For the record, I was rooting for Troy the whole way in that game at LSU this year. So close...

Not to mention Troy taking OSU into the 4th only trailing 14-10 last year in Columbus. Troy will be a challenge, no question.

thanks for the props guys. i'm afraid i don't know much about Bowling Green. i'm interested in your program though. i'm a mid-major guy, and I'm a big fan of the MAC. Hopefully I'll know more about your Falcons before kick off. I might try and make it up to the game.
