Zips land 3 star QB prospect Pat Nicely, they open a brand new stadium this fall...and now this...
AKRON – University of Akron head football coach J.D. Brookhart announced today the addition of two outstanding offensive minds with the hiring of Shane Montgomery as offensive coordinator/tight ends coach and Walt Harris as quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator.

Wow, those are two very good additions to that coaching staff. Luckily the game is played on both sides of the ball, and only one guy can call the plays during the game. BUT, the teaching they will be able to do in practice is going to be invaluable. And to have two former DI head coaches to pull ideas from in the staff meetings are also going to be invaluable there. But from what some of you guys have said, and the fact that Coach Clawson was able to pull what is regarded by some as the third best recruiting class in Ohio, I am very excited about out future. You know what they say about too many chiefs and not enough indians, maybe they will get to thinking too much with all of the ideas that will be flowing.

We'll see. On the surface, these seems like an awesome move by the Zips, but there are a lot of variables in play. When all is said and done, I wouldn't be surprised if this doesn't work out as well as many might think.

I don't know how Uncle Walt will feel taking orders and being overruled by a former subordinate, let alone another guy who was just fired from a MAC school primarily for his teams' inability to score points on offense. The different dynamics at play with Nicely have already been addressed, and they still have to see about the matter of filling their stadium and selling a program coming off two losing seasons to a NE Ohio fan base where Akron ranks 4th (at best) behind high school football, the Browns and OSU.
I'll still take the Doyt plus the Sebo, Clawson, Ruggiero and Schilz.

Let's be realistic, Akron has added a couple for FORMER head coaches. Let us emphasize the FORMER part of that, they have a combined 88-116 record as HC's. Also look this, if Harris is a great coach, why has he been out of coaching since 2006? Not to mention that last year's OC is still on staff and is now the run game coordinator, Harris is the Passing coordinator, and Montgomery is the OC. Too many people with too many titles, with too many hands in the cookie jar.

We threw a bunch of those this year at BG too. Hopefully they'll leave with GB.

No, our former coach upgraded. I'd call Stanford to Akron a pretty significant downgrade. Add changing from head coach to a coordinator and that's just shameful. I bet he'll be elsewhere soon.

I think meth is the drug of choice in Akron.

I watch the news. A few years back when they decided to start going after meth dealers the most labs in Ohio were found there.

Actually... Wilmington Ohio is the Meth Capital of the Midwest.
