Second half meltdowns vs. NIU & UT - CRUSHING!!!

Post by BGSU33 »

BG was tied at NIU 7-7 at halftime and was leading UT 27-7 at halftime . Both games resulted in our opponents just taking it to us in the second half. I can take the NIU loss in stride because it was a tied game, but we led by 20 points against Toledo. 20!!! Give me a 20-point lead with one half of football against anyone in the country with BG and I like our odds of winning. Man this one hurts!
GO BG!!!

I'm not big on "ifs and "buts"--but I think if we stop them on 4th down when its 27-7 instead of giving up the TD the game is essentially over at that point. Oh well, what might have been.

Another if -- if we take the holding call and make it 3rd and 18 instead of declining to make it 4th and 8.....oh well.

I like that we take the ball first in every game. It allows us to jump out 7-0 of every game without much trouble, but then the other team gets the ball first in the second half after the halftime adjustments and we tend to get beat in the second half of games. I think that's what happened in both games. The opposing team made adjustments, got the ball first, scored, and took momentum that we could never get back.

If and buts... You know given the field position, score, distance, that they will go for it on fourth dow. So why not take the penalty? Take the penalty adn force an incompletion or short gain, then then probably punt on fourth down. Declining the penalty gave them a shorter distance to gain in one play. Oh well. :?

The way they were moving the ball, it likely didn't make any difference. They would have made 18, too.
