Will anyone here cry?

Will anyone here cry over the loss of Gregg Brandon if he moves on to another school? I'm not to the point of wanting the man fired, but I sure as heck wouldn't shed a tear if he took another job. In fact, I'd be thrilled to death if he took another job.
I'm sorry guys, but I'm sick of watching this mediocre coaching job. We will NEVER be better than 9-2, 8-3 with Gregg Brandon, and this is assuming he continues to bring in the top recruiting classes in the MAC. We beat 8 teams this year, and a trained chimp could've coached them to 7 of those victories, and Marshall isn't that great of a team either.
I'm tired of watching us fail to get up for a big road game, a game that our entire team & coaching staff must know is crucial to the success of their season. I'm tired of listening to Brandon fail to address our problem areas after big victories, then whine about how we still deserve a bowl after we choke. I'm tired of getting out adjusted at halftime by opposing coaches. I'm tired of this team under Gregg Brandon.
Is it better than the later Blackney years? Hell yes it is, but so is a sharp stick through the eye. This coaching staff has continually failed to get our guys up for big games, and I, for one, will not shed a tear if he moves on to another school. Brandon is a great strategist, and has a damn good offensive mind. He would make a top notch OC at any program in the country. I don't believe at all that he is a top notch head coaching candidate. Hopefully someone will take him off our hands before we're doomed to another string of years similar to the second half of Blackney's tenure.

I think it's too soon to say we'll never get there under GB, but I will admit that the second half road collapses at UT and NIU this year and Miami last year are indicative of a problem that HAS to be addressed.

Hammb, I mostly agree with you. I still think of Brandon as a glorified offensive coordinator. If he could just go back to coaching the offense I would be thrilled. But as the overall leader of the program I have my doubts. One concern I would have if Brandon left would be the state of our offense because I also don't see Stud as a good offensive coordinator. Do you think he could keep this offense going on his own if Brandon wasn't around?
Another concern with Brandon is that I you don't hear him talk much about the "X's and O's" part of coaching. Like after the NIU game has just says we got our butts kicked. Well, we all know that already coach. Can you tell me WHY we got our butts kicked? It makes me wonder if he really understands that part of coaching a football team.

These guys might be available.
Okay, let's say (hypothetically) they can Brandon. Who are they going to hire? Is Krebs gonna pull another Urban Meyer out of his bag of tricks? I highly doubt that.
Is Krebs gonna be able to find a better coach that fits in the athletic budget?
I dunno, guys, I'd be thrilled if this team goes 8-3 or 9-2 every year. 12-0 would be better, obviously, but 9-2 is damn good.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think there is anyway in heck that Brandon gets fired. But if he happened to take another job like maybe UNLV, would it be such a bad thing?
Butch Davis was a damn good college coach and I am guessing after that vote of confidence he got yesterday that he will be looking for a job come January.

Warhog, no I don't think that Stud, et al, would be able to continue our offensive fireworks once Brandon left. I don't think Stud is a good OC either, I think he's a good OL coach who got a promotion when the previous guy got a promotion.
If it were me I'd be looking for another young, fiery guy to take over at HC and get another strategist to be the OC. There are other fiery (Urban Meyer-esque) coaching candidates out there. There are other strategists (Gregg Brandon-esque) out there. We are trying to fit a square peg into a round hole by having Brandon as head coach. Not only does it give us a deficiency at the HC position, but IMO, we're taking a great OC and not letting him do that job.
I hear you about what we do & don't hear Brandon talking about in post game conferences, but I base my opinion on it more in the wins. I cannot stand his postgame conferences after wins. There is ALWAYS something that needs to be worked on, yet he continually shrugs it off. When our rush defense looked porous he replied that it must not matter because we're winning. When we weren't running the ball well he thought it must not matter, because we're winning. That is not how you prepare & improve a team throughout the season. Give me Urban or Lou Holtz's philosophy of we always suck any day. Let the fans say how good we are, I like my football coaches to always be looking at the negatives, that's how things get fixed.

I'm with you again Warthog...I don't think they should, nor will they, fire Brandon. I'm just saying I wouldn't shed a tear if he left for another opportunity.

I would not be sad if he left. Again, I don't dislike the guy, but i'm tired of the play calling. We may be beating crappy teams by a lot, and we may have good first quarters, but our play calling sucks. We had those DB's beat all night, and we RARELY went after them. We played into Toledo's hands and I can't sit and watch that.
I'm fine if he stays, yes, 8-3, 9-2 is great. But if someone else wants to take a chance on him...then i say "have at it hoss!"

I'll have to respectfully disagree with you on this one. I'm willing to give Brandon some more time to develop as a head coach. He was thrust into the job before he was ready and is still developing.
So far, looks like he's a good recruiter, so we should see a continued (and expanding) flow of talent into the program.
I think we can all agree that he certainly knows how to pile up points on offense.
But he needs to develop some of the subtle head coaching skills that make a great head coach. I, for one, believe they can be developed.
Not that he cares, but he gets my vote of confidence.

You're entitled to your opinion, thanks for being civil and explaining your rationale. I certainly see your point, and some of it makes perfect sense. I thank you for not blindly saying I'm not a BG fan and I should just quit liking BG sports for having a differing opinion.
My personal perspective is that I'm also an OSU fan. Pardon me for saying that our current situation bears a VERY striking resemblence to the types of seasons we saw from John Cooper. Continue to pump good talent into the program. Continually destroy the teams that have less talent. Continually blow at least one big game at some point in the season to ensure that you can never become quite that elite program you want to become.

You could be on to something. And I could change my opinion if the program doesn't show some development in the areas discussed.
But given the state of our program before The Urban Legend and Coach B arrived, I'm happy where we're at right now. The expectations will grow as time marches on, though...

FOR GOD SAKES PEOPLE.. THE MAN AS LOST WHAT, FIVE GAMES IN HIS CAREER AS A HEAD COACH (I THINK.. MAYBE SIX.. WHATEVER)! YES, WE LOST A BIG GAME LAST NIGHT AND NEED TO PLAY BETTER ON THE ROAD, BUT WE HAVE THREE LOSSES.. THREE.. THAT'S IT. 10 YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS GOING TO GAMES, I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HAVE A 6 OR SEVEN WIN SEASON.. LET ALONE AN 8 OR 9 WIN SEASON. GIVE BRANDON SOME CREDIT.
AS FAR AS REPLACING HIM.. LETS NOT WORRY ABOUT IT UNTIL WE HAVE TO. AND WHEN THAT TIME COMES, KREBBS NEEDS TO KEEP THE SYSTEM THAT'S IN PLACE NOW.. IN PLACE. HIRE ONE OF GB'S ASSISTANTS.. WHEN HE'S SUCCESSFUL AND LEAVES.. HIRE ANOTHER ONE.. IT'S THAT SIMPLE

This team was up for this game. They came out the first half like they wanted to win. I don't know what was said at halftime but unless Coach Brandon went into the locker room and said "you guys are playing horrible, just give up," I can't blame it entirely on the coaches. This exact situation happened at the EMU-NIU game. EMU was playing great, went into halftime, and came out a different team. I think it has a lot to do with the players thinking they are ahead and it's going to be easy the rest of the way or something along those lines. I really can't blame the loss on the coaching staff.
Oh, and I would really be upset if Coach Brandon were to leave...he gets me tickets to the away games

Will I cry? No. I didn't cry when Urban left. I believe coach Brandon is doing the same exact job as Urban did while he was here. All you have to do is look at the records. One difference is that coach Brandon went to a bowl game last year and it looks like it could happen again this year.
I am stunned that our team looked like they were caught in the headlights in the second half. It was like our team switched jersey's with Toledo. In the second half our offense didn't look comfortable and our defense was awful. In the first half we had five guys just dying to lay a hit on their guys in the second half that didn't happen.
