Is there reason to be frustrated with the Falcons dropping two games they had in hand this year? Yes. Are we going overboard to declare this the end of the world, air doubts we may have harbored all season in a fit of post defeat gloom? Yes.
Could there be reason to wonder about Brandon? I'm sure somebody could make a fair argument, but the UT (twits in blue and yellow) fans were calling for their coaches head after the first two games of the year. Now I'm sure they are all kissing his considerable behind again. And given the awesome size and eminence of that behind, I'm sure there is room for everybody on their bandwagon.
I've lived through the Blackney era. I've been higher than a kite about BGSU football and had my program ground into the dirt, hoping the entire time that I was just living through an understandable down-cycle. I'm not going to pull punches again if I think things are bad.
I don't think Brandon being a "players coach" cost us this game. I do think they blinked as a staff, and believed too much in the teams own hype. They changed what worked, and tried to play safe. They failed to adjust early in the third quarter, a time anybody who has reviewed rockets (short bus jockeys) season knows is when they rally. They got sucked down the whirlpool of the toilet bowl. They made some calls that jump out as unwise at the time, as they do now after the game. Plus there were issues with the how the players on the field executed which can not be directly attributed to coaching in this case.
An exact breakdown of the game belongs in another thread.
The issue here is if we have reason to be concerned with the coaching staff. I personally don't think we have major concerns. I think the staff will improve as the team does.
Expectations got very high this year, with more than a little good reason. What I await is evidence that the program, from the players, coaches, and fans learn to absorb a loss, some disappointment, and come back stronger the next time.
We still have another game to play. I know thats new territory to most MAC fans, but we should get used to it. Once the season is truly complete, then we look ahead to recruiting, spring ball, our schedule, and what counts for something.
Now isn't yet the moment to point figures and throw up our hands.
Now is not the time to second guess.....
