All right, you guys probably thought this was going to be smack by the title, right? I promised to be back after the game, so here I am. I have given you guys some time to lick your wounds and hopefully you can put things into a better persective right now.

First off, I will say that as our rival, I find it fun to despise Bowling Green. I will say that I never respected Josh Harris as a good quarterback. To me, he seemed like a decent college quarterback who was working in a good system that allowed him to exploit every aspect of the position. I am telling you this so that you can put the following opinions into perspective. I think that Omar looked really good last night and he will be a great one in the future. I shudder at the thought of the Rockets facing a Jacobs led offense on your home field next year. I also shudder at the thought of the Rockets possibly facing a Jacobs led offense in the Glass Bowl two years from now. By the end of his career, he will be a great one and we'll probably see him in that line of MAC / NFL QB photos that they show during MAC football games. If I were a Falcon fan (and I thank God every day that I'm not), I would hope that the QB coaches try to mold Turner into an Omar type QB as opposed to a Harris type. BTW, another thing that I have noticed about Omar is that he remains very well composed even in hostile environments.

The comments that I heard that Coach Brandon made regarding your team after the game were uncalled for. Your team deserves much better than what Brandon gave them. For those that don't know what I'm talking about, he apparently blamed the players for the loss, namely Omar. For someone with Omar's background (first year starter) to come into the Glass Bowl with that atmosphere and do what he did, really impressed a lot of people. The BG coaches were outcoached in the second half as the Rockets were in the first half. Brandon should have publically taken the credit for the loss, not pass it off onto Omar.

I sat here all season, reading this forum and the many posts from your fans. Most BG fans discounted UT because of the big early nonconference losses. I watched every Rocket game this year and I could see the team progress. Very few of you here could see that, which is why nearly all of you expected a win. I will pose this one question for you though: if UT is truly a terrible team as discussed by many, how terrible does that make your team using transitive methods? Truth is, as I told fellow Rocket fans on our board before, during, and after the game: BG is a damn good team [as are the Rockets] and the Rockets are lucky to have come out of that game with a win. Ceteris Parabus, I believe the Falcons would have won this on another field.

I despise your team because it is fun to despise the rivals. You must have left all of the bad BG fans at home last night because all of the BG fans that I saw at the game were very respectful and polite. You were great ambassadors for your team last night. I thought about trying to meet Flipper last night, but I realized that it is not good to fraternize with the enemy. :D I really wouldn't have minded actually meeting some of you such as Schadenfreude, FF90, Flipper, BGSU33, Mossmaidi, and maybe others, but oh well.

Officiating seemed to be pretty bad on both sides of the ball. I was told [in the stadium] that McDougle stepped out of bounds at the end of the game. I saw Rockets and Falcons interfering when it wasn't called. I saw Antonio Malone rob a Falcon for a return and a touchdown to be called back due to forward progress. A W is a W and an L is an L, but I will again say that the coaches lost that game, not the players.

I still despise Magner though.

For the record, I never had doubted that the Rockets would win. Okay, so I didn't start feeling good about the game until about the middle of the third quarter, but it was an awesome win damnit!

I hope all of your fans that went to the game had a good trip to the Glass Bowl last night.

Good luck in whatever bowl you get. I am confident that your team will win regardless of the opponent they face.

Here is some very good reading material about the game if anyone is interested. It is written by a fellow UT fan and I think the article echoes many UT fans' opinions.

Thanks for the level-headed, non-gloating post. The last thing any of us need right now is to have our noses rubbed in what happened out there. I may detest your football team, but I appreciate your insight.

That said, unless you and I were listening to two completely different people named Gregg Brandon speak last night, I do take exception to this:
Touchdown Rockets wrote:The comments that I heard that Coach Brandon made regarding your team after the game were uncalled for. Your team deserves much better than what Brandon gave them. For those that don't know what I'm talking about, he apparently blamed the players for the loss, namely Omar.
If you're talking about the postgame news conference, I didn't hear him blame anybody for the loss. The quote I think you're referring to is this one:
"I thought our ineptness and Omar (Jacobs) not being real sharp in the third quarter was the difference. It was the first time in a long time that he hasn't been as accurate as he's been."
The way I heard it, and the way I still read it, Brandon's discussing two different things here.

First, an overall ineptness, which he doesn't blame on anyone in particular. Second, Omar no longer being superhuman, which isn't really something you can blame on anyone.

I do agree that Brandon could have perhaps been more clear about who was inept - Frankly, I think he'd tell you pretty bluntly the coaching staff should shoulder much of the blame - but I don't see that at all as blaming Omar.

Again, thanks for the insightful, calm, reasonable post. There haven't been a ton of those around here in the last day or so, myself included.

Thanks for the nice comments TR. Come down to the UT@BG basketball game Jan. 22nd and we'll show you a good time in "The house that roars".
I'm personally over the loss, but I know many others it will leave a bad taste for a while. At least basketball has started, letting me concentrate on something else right now!!!

I agree with some of the other AZZer's comments...nice of you to come and NOT talk smack....I've always said I enjoy going to opponents' places and talking to their fans....who usually ARE good folks out to enjoy the games as much as I do.... experiences at Penn St. and Kentucky in particular stand out as highlights in terms of meeting friendly football loving fans. I have a brother who went to UT for 2 yrs., then transferred to C.Fla. ( How's THAT for a combo!)...he and his family are staying with me for this Thanksgiving weekend, and while we usually kid each other about this game, it IS just that...good natured stuff. He watched the game, agreed that McDougle DID step out, especially the 1st time, but we all know that MAC refs aren't perfect and "miss a few"... that isn't why BG lost.. UT won..and all of us, after cooling down from the emotions of the game, should recognize that... Have a happy holiday season, good luck in the MACC...as to us, we'll have to hold out hopes that another solid MAC team doesn't get screwed by the bowl people..Not holding my breath, but I'd love to see this team play again and gain redemption for what happened on Tues.

Bottom line is that if Toledo doesn't score on that 4th and 9 play from BG's 37 yard line the game is over and probably another 63-20 shallacking by the Falcons...but they got it so it's a mute point. Gutsy or stupid call by Amstutz? I guess he's a genious because the pass was complete. Incomplete and it's a blowout for the Falcons. They call him a gambler--Cecil Fielder is a gambler too.

Couple of things Joe...first of all...nothing against you, but my biggest pet peave in the world is "MOOT POINT!!!" so I hope you were just trying to be sarcastic.

I agree on the 4th and 9 being the turning point, but that was the only choice for Amstutz in my opinion as they were too close to punt and too far for a field goal. Although we would have had to score on the following drive to turn it in to that much of a blowout.

I agree with Tom (of the Redwing variety, not so much the Amstutz version!), the call to go for it wasn't all that hard, I don't think, it was the call to go deep with it. Though I'm sure once Moore got 5 steps on Jordan, that could have changed the play, too. Of course, that only cut it to a 13 point lead, there were plenty more plays that could have been made and were made by their offense, not ours. But, since the game was Tuesday and its now Friday, that point is....

...MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT. :D

I always hated that phrase, though. Reminds me of Jesse Jackson's slick talking. Hmm...

TR--you should've stopped by. My wife is a UT grad so she could have translated.

There's always hoops and next year's game. We'll see you boys at the Doyt for sure, heck we might even give you a beer or two.

It's Brandon's turn to be the coaching genius next year
