The bland link is broke, but they have a link saying that Sylvania Southview's Shaun Joplin (Stan's son) will attend BGSU to play football.

Southview QB Alex Pidcock is also reportedly walking on to play at BG as well!

I have seen both of these guys play in person. Joplin is a legit D-1 receiver. Big, fast, and can jump. He is a player. The QB is also very good, more of a bruising runner type, but may have another position in his future.

Being serious in asking, does Joplin's kid play basketball? His dad wasn't bad, we haven't had many two sport players, but I'm curious.

I think this is a great addition to the Falcon Football family! Best of Luck to Shaun and welcome to your new family!

The link in the original post (I think it is basically someone's blog) says he hopes to play basketball too. Can he pass - Cole Magner? ;)

A guy on the Toledo board is speculating that he is not the greatest student so hopefully he won't have qualification issues!

Not exactly speculation- he was ineligible for part of last year due to academics (widely reported in the Blade and elsewhere) and Blade says he has yet to pass ACTs. There's a pretty good discussion on this from the thread in the hoops forum from back in April. ;-)

Yea, when the story has to make the point that he has yet to take the ACT/qualify, the red flag went right up. I think that is one of the reasons he didn't get more offers.

Bland link finally fixed. Just mentions he is taking his ACT's next month. No mention that he has failed them in the past and I can't find any link to that effect anywhere.

Why would they mention he is taking the ACT next month if it wasn't relevant to him becoming eligible? I mean, if he has already passed the clearinghouse and is eligible to play, why report that he is taking the aCT next month?

Bottom line there is no way the kid would be taking the ACT again if he had already received a qualifying score. He obviously still needs to qualify. Whether he's taken the test in the past and fallen short or not I don't know, but it's doubtful that this is the first attempt at the test.

There is no cost. The kid is a stud and is coming for free. It's the definition of low risk/high reward.

I'm guessing Clawson told Joplin that if he gets his academics in order and contributes on the field, a scholarship will be waiting. Again, the potential payoff for BG could be huge.

Just to throw a little cold water on this topic ... If Joplin does decent on the ACT, I suppose there's a chance a school could come in at the last minute and offer him a scholarship. To the best of my knowledge, BG does not have any scholarship left to give for this year's class.
