Motor City Bowl - Game time change

According to the MCB's website, this year's game is at 1pm. The change was brought on by ESPN. The MCB is scheduled for Dec 26 @ 1pm, the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte is at 4pm, and the Emerald Bowl in SF is at 7pm. All games are on ESPN.

Hopefully both MCB teams are within a couple hours drive, so that fans can travel early on the 26th. Hopefully attendance won't be affected by the early start by fans that are unwilling or unable to travel Christmas night.

Scout.com (via CollegeFootballNews.com) has their "Way too Early Bowl Projections" out: http://cfn.scout.com/2/862394.html

They project Michigan vs Central. They could play this game on Xmas morning and Ford Field would sell out. Of course, Michigan vs BG sounds much better and would also sell out. They also project Wake Forest vs La Tech in the GMAC, and reflect that game's tie-ins as ACC vs MAC/WAC. The International is projected as Cincy vs Western.

Anyway, hopefully the early start won't affect the MCB's attendance.

I would say the only way this game does sell out is if Michigan or another big name Big 10 school is in it. Has the MCB ever had a sellout crowd? I thought I saw a list of attendence numbers but I can't remember now.

Big Ten teams definitely helps the attendance. Unfortunately, there's rarely 7 Big teams that are bowl eligible. Here's the most recent attendance numbers. Fla Atlantic only sold 1,000 tickets last year:

Dec. 26, 2002
45,761
Boston College 51
Toledo 25

Dec. 26, 2003
51,286
Bowling Green 28
Northwestern 24

Dec. 27, 2004
52,552
Connecticut 39
Toledo 10

Dec. 26, 2005
45,801
Memphis 38
Akron 31

Dec. 26, 2006
54,113
Central Michigan 31
Middle Tennessee State 14

Dec. 26, 2007
60,624
Purdue 51
Central Michigan 48

Dec. 26, 2008
41,399
Florida Atlantic 24
Central Michigan 21

Thanks for the numbers...I found them when I went and looked at the very next thread (D'Oh!). Let's just hope that BG is Bowl Eligible in the first year of the Clawson era, starting a string of 5 or 6 consecutive Bowl Games!!!

I would love to go to the MCB. However, I also desperately want a MAC Championship. We have not had one since '92. That's ridiculous!!!!!! Clawson must do what others could not, bring the MAC Championship back where it belongs.

Any projection that would ever consider putting the winningest program in college football history in the MCB is not even worth a debate over.

The Almighty Michigan would never "lower" themselves.

You're not going to become the Michigan version of Tek now, are you?

I would normally agree with that, but after the worst year in the history of the program, they might just take any bowl game. The extra practice time is invaluable.

If we ever did get one of those, I'd say just lock 'em in a room and wait it out.

As for our Falcons, I'd be happy to see any move in a positive direction from the last several years. Get us a winning Bowl appearance this season, and I might be ok with putting off a MAC championship for one more year. But the sooner that MAC Championship does get here, the better.

Beat UT.

Win the MAC.

The rest doesn't matter until the first two are taken care of. Then we can pound on winning the bowl games.

Outside of cheering for Michigan to beat the two teams I despise as much as UT (OSU and ND) I hope Michigan loses just about every game they play.

Yes...beat Toledo like we did last year...crush them in every phase of the game like we did last year. That's what we want.
