Stu was one of the guys that made BG football special. Not just because he was a great player - and he was - but because he was a genuinely great guy. How tragic and sad to see such a vibrant life cut short.

What a GREAT guy. Always had a smile on his face, and would go out of his way to say hello, where ever you were. I cried like a baby when I heard this.

Stu played at BGSU from 1981-84 and was a solid player along the D line. I believe he earned 2nd Team All MAC in his career. He had a BiG fumble recovery in the 1982 Raisin Bowl...a game BG led 28-7 after 3 quarters only to lose 29-28 in the closing seconds.
Mrs. Freak's cousin, Mike Foor, played with Stu and said he was one of the best dudes on the team. He played briefly in the NFL with the Lions and Browns and Arizona Ranglers of the USFL.

For any of us that were around back then and knew Stu, he would definitely be on your "all time list of favorite players". He was just that likable. Those were the days of Brian McClure, Stan Hunter, Dave Bittner, Mike Foor and many other GREAT guys, and Denny Stolz was the coach. What memories.
One of my favorite stories about Stu, is one game (I don't remember which), when they came out of the locker room all jacked up, ready to play and he went to jump up and high five our backup QB, and they MISSED and he hit him squarely on the helment. The backup QB ended up on the ground knocked out!

I got to know Stu when he was at BG and most everyone will never know what a great guy he was. From his class only Martin Bayless and Mark Emans were drafted into the NFL. Martin had a good career in the NFL and Mark was one of the last to get cut by the Packers. Stu signed as a FA I believe and made it into the NFL first with the Browns and then the Lions. The man loved football.
