Schedule with early predictions
I was bored in the middle of summer with a day off work at I know it 71 Days but I thought I would give my thoughts on the schedule.
Troy (L)- I hope that I am wrong and that the home field will help, but after watching their bowl game and the way they played Ohio State last year, I think their going to take this one with their speed and athleticism.
Missouri- (L) Could be a tight game but first road game with a new coaching staff and new system is tough... I think we hang around but the size of Mizzu will wear us down
Marshall- (W) I think we have more talent and if we execute we will win by 10 point ... Huntington is a tough place to play
BSU- (L) I think their young talented QB will have a field day if this was on the road its probably a blow out... but at home with a packed Doyt it could be close but I think a young secondary vs. a talent young QB and great skill players BSU wins by 10-14
Ohio- (W) I don’t care what some of the pundits say about OU they see the falcons and wet their pants (similar to us with Miami) BG by two touchdowns and Falcons start their run.
Kent- (W) This is be a shootout and I think our D matures... and you will see why we hired Clawson. He will manage the clock when we get a lead and play smart football something that hasn’t happen in a while BG by 14
Ball State (W) I think we saw the future without Nate Davis I think this one goes to the Falcons in the first easy one of the year
Central Michigan (L)- This is a tough one to call, I think Dan LeFevour is a special talent similar to Josh Harris and I think the probably WillS them to win the MAC title this year. I will say CMU by a touchdown
Buffalo (W)- They lost Drew Willy and some important supporting cast members on "D" I think that our balanced offense will have Buffalo on their heals all day. BG by 10
Miami (L)- The curse continues I can’t explain it I wont even try
Akron- (W) Akron will be a much better team this year with a lot of returning players. So, I think this comes down to heart and the home field advantage Falcons by a FG
Toledo (W)- I refuse to ever think that we will lose to them and with all that program has been through I think the should be a win going away.
Prediction: 7-5 with a chance of winning a MAC East title and losing to CMU in the MAC Championship. GMAC bound.
I think the season hinges on Troy and BSU at home. I think both teams are better than us but if we can have 23,000 plus behind us maybe we pull one off and get on a role, but this is how I see it playing it out. I know its early but I am excited. Whats does everyone else think?

Marshall- (L) MArshall at home I just dont see us winning there, new coach..maybe but I doubt it.
BSU- (L) it just wont go the other way.
Ohio- (L) OU has never been so good. Good for them, bad for us likely, new coach so again that could be differnece maker for us in flipping it.
Kent- (L) kent by 10
Ball State (L) again they are good and proven now, we are new and untested
Central Michigan (L) by 21
Buffalo (W) finally I see on the positve side
Miami (W) things have turned around BG by 10
Akron- (W) BG in a down to the wire squeaker in inclement weather BG by 7
Toledo (W) Toledo beat MI lastseason, and BG beats toledo this season
BGSU 4-8 this year, MACC champ will be CMU.

Willy was a big hit but who did we lose on D that we cant replace? Our D-Line was our weakness and the incoming class is bigger, faster, and more athletic than the seniors we lost. The Linebackers are all back as is our entire DB
BG can win, you should have beaten us last year but our defense is going to be better this go around..

I agree they are freshman but they are replacing a part of our defense that we could not count on last year anyway so whats the loss..Flipper wrote:Having bigger and faster guys coming in is all well and good...but they're still freshmen and shouldn't be counted upon to match, let alone exceed what you got from seniors.

While we may very well finish 4-8, I would make a healthy wager that we would not even come close to losing 8 in a row or winning 4 in a row.MACMAN wrote:troy (L) gut says Troy 35, BGSU 1060yearsofsicsic wrote:I was bored in the middle of summer with a day off work at I know it 71 Days but I thought I would give my thoughts on the schedule.

Fantastic! I can't wait to get started with our new coach. I have two questions: (1) Are there any 2002 highlights? and (2) Does anyone have the link for the archived statistics of all BGSU sports (I lost it)?MarkL wrote:I'm predicting, or hoping, for something along these lines:

Alright, here's my perspective. Every year since 2005, I've done these preseason picks, and I've been 3 games on the optimistic side every year, except for 2007 where I was right on the money. It's hard not to look at this without the orange-and-brown-colored-glasses, but I'm going to try.
Troy - W (1-0) - One thing I know about BG football, we usually come out in the opener like worldbeaters. This game screams loss, but for some reason, I think we not only win this one but win big. It gets everybody pumped up for the eventual slap back to reality
@ Missouri - L (1-1) - This is a game that I could see us winning, as Mizzou isn't as strong this year. But I still think they've got a lot of talent, and they'll win this one at home.
@ Marshall - W (2-1) - Marshall stinks and BG has been a solid road team most all this decade. Easy win. Next.
Boise State - L (2-2) - Unfortunately, I think Boise will wipe the floor with us in this one, and start the hate train as everybody starts talking about our woefully inconsistent play.
Ohio - W (3-2) - Aside from the Zach Charles fumbleathon in 2007, Ohio has always fared poorly against BG. This one is no different. BG by at least 2 touchdowns as the roller coaster continues.
@ Kent State - W (4-2) - They can't read, they can't write, they kent state, and they ain't no good at football. BG wins comfortably.
@ Ball State - L (4-3) - This is a tough game to call because BSU is losing Nate Davis and some other great talents. I think we can win this one, but I think BSU has turned the corner, and they're going to be very good for a while. Ball State by less than a touchdown in what could be a heartbreaker.
Central Michigan - L (4-4) - Heartbreak city again. This one will probably be close, but in the 4th quarter, I see LeFevour taking over and leading CMU to the victory at the Doyt, probably by several scores.
@ Buffalo - W (5-4) - Buffalo is turning into a solid MAC program, but our guys won't forget what happened last year and will pay the Bulls back to stay alive in the MAC title race.
@ Miami - L (5-5) - Again, for whatever reason, BG generally plays their worst football against the Redhawks, and this year is no different. Miami wins this one comfortably.
Akron - W (6-5) - Last year's game was a thriller, and they usually are when BG meets the Zips. I see both teams being around .500 at the time of this game. This one could go either way, but with the season on the line again, I give Clawson and Co. the slight edge to get the victory.
Toledo - W (7-5) - Easiest game on the schedule to call. A packed house gives BG their first real home advantage since the Boise game, and the Falcons get it done to beat their now-hapless rivals to finish over .500.
A 7-5 record and a 5-3 MAC mark, with 2 of the losses coming against the West Division, probably puts BG in the MAC Championship mix. I really, really don't think this is overly optimistic, and I'm hoping that the team can rally around the new coaching staff and play well this season. Winning at home is going to be key, especially with quality teams like Troy, Boise, and CMU coming in.

As far as predictions go...I think if we can get through our ooc sched. unhurt, and at the very least 2-2, we may have a good chance at winning the rest of the games. It's just a matter of how well they are able to gel and adapt to the new system under Coach Clawson. If they can't gel, then it'll be another tough season for all.
