I'm guessing that thing cost a pretty penny to print.

Weren't there also some new NCAA regulations regarding media guides as well? I seem to recall something prohibiting the extravagant print media guides because it was deemed an unfair recruiting advantage for schools that could afford to do more than others.
Could be wrong, but I seem to remember something like that.

Indeed. A lot of schools have stopped printing media guides and are using DVDs instead. There was an article on ESPN.com awhile back that said schools are doing it to try and cut costs.

That is definitely a good way to cut costs down. I remember getting one each of the 3 years I was with BG24 and those things always looked phenomenal. I'll be ok with just having a pdf version. If you really think about it, all the need to do each year is have an "Update." I mean, the historical marks don't change. The only thing that changes is that there was another season with new statstics. Sure, some of the records may have been broken, but that's what "updates" are for.

I remember something about that as well. Don't recall what the ruling was, but there was definitely something about the use of media guides.

I remember something about it a decade or so ago. The guides MAC schools hand out are thick enough, but the big schools make them look like a pamphlet.
The PDF idea works, I've used them off the site in the past for bgsusports.com, it makes searching a breeze! I can see schools going to DVD and having the same sort of "arms race" with video and interactivity, but at least it would put schools on a more level playing field in terms of final production costs.

I thought NCAA was abolishing them for individual schools but this looks like the NCAA itself won't be printing them.

Actually, I think that's about the University of Indianapolis, a D-2 school here.

They've finally identified the biggest problem afflicting college athletics: large guidebooks that provide information
about football programs. A playoff system can't be far off after this groundbreaking reform.

Just a sign of the times.
The KEY yearbook is morphing into a magazine and, I suspect, it will be a short trip from magazine to online-only entity.

How embarrasing. I assumed that i was the NCAa- how does a D2 University sponsor 21 varsity sports?

"Breaking" and "Entering" are considered two separate sports.
