No love for the Falcons from the rest of the MAC. I hope we are using this as the ever popular bulletin board material...I really hope this team is motivated by the lack of expectations and doesn't look at it as an out for a bad year. C'Mon Falcons! Prove everyone wrong!

Yes, I am surprised how bad they have BGU doing

Eh, polls are polls. In 2007, we were picked 5th in the preseason poll and ended up 8-4.
Last year we were picked 1st and look what happened.
I still think BG will be right there at the top of the East. The division is up for grabs.
33 days!!!!!!!!!!!!

As much as I hate that we were picked to finish so low, I can't say I fault the rest of the coaches for doing such. We've got a new coach who is bringing a new scheme but at the same time will be using stuff from the old scheme (which we know sucks). It's going to be a transition period for sure but I would never, ever count us out!

There should be no transition. With the offensive starters we have returning, Clawson should be just trying to get out of the way and let this offense roll to 30 points per game like the previous 6 seasons. Focus on the defense...that's where we always need help.

Yeah there was nothing wrong with our offense last season, or the year before, or the year before. Cowboy you're delusional, and you love your 30 points per game number so much that you're willing to go all the way back to the Omar days to get to that number? Good god man, give it up.
We averaged 27 points a game last year, but had numerous times in big games where we failed to move the ball when needed. Yeah we put up 45 on the likes of Wyoming, but that's hardly something to get excited about.
We did average 30 points a game in '07.
'06 was a joke offensively averaging under 20 points per game.
I'm sorry but you couldn't be more wrong. The offensive scheme that we ran the past 3 years has been mostly awful. Nothing going downfield and way too many designed QB runs with a non running QB. The system was not even close to what it was in the previous years and to say that he should leave his hands off it is just ridiculous. Bottom line is that the players that are here now have never played in the Brandon offensive scheme when it was actually good. They all played in the predictable playcalling, poorly executed version of the Brandon offense.

Why not? That offensive coordinator at Tennessee couldn't do that.
And now for the part where I emphasize that this post is
NOT one of the .001 percent of the time where I'm serious.

You may think the system was no good but you can ask Toledo, Ohio, Akron, Wyoming, Kent and Buffalo last season as we ran up 38, 28, 33, 45, 45, and 30 points respectively last season. Ask those teams how predictable we were and how poorly we executed. That joke of a year in 06' was a year w/no QB and we led the MAC in rushing---not one of Brandon's strong points supposedly.

I believe there were 6 other games last year. Look, I liked Brandon for a while -- I think he's a great offensive coordinator -- but it was time for him to go.

Unfortunately, the polling has substance given our present circumstances. My main concern is hiring a coach who couldn't get it done as an OC at a BCS program. Actually thats kind. He deployed the worst offensive output in Vols history with upper echelon SEC talent (watch what the new guys does with many of the same players). NIU's (much love to our fellow MACsters) defense took his offenseive scheme to the woodshed. Meanwhile, Coach Beckman is bringing Urbanism back to the northwest as he bunks with his players instilling the same level of passion and dedication that we once enjoyed.

To paraphrase Mike Tyson, passion and dedication are great until someone punches you in the mouth. Besides...I think the only thing Beckman has in common with Saint Urbie is they both worked here for awhile and quit at inopportune times
I put little stock in Clawson's performance as an OC. Neither you nor I (or anyone else here) has any idea about the amount of freedom he was given to install his offense or gameplan or even call the plays. I put much more weight behind what he did at Richmond and Fordham....he was at both gigs for longer than a year and was actually running the show.
Irregardless, (doesn't that just piss you off Grant?) screw the polls and the mental masturbation contained therein....they'll be playuing some ball in about a month, we'll have a much better idea abot coach lawson then

I'm just saying that I hope Clawson keeps most of the offense in place. That wasn't our problem. He is addressing 4th quarter collapses (conditioning) and mental toughness I hope. I will be the first one to put him on my shoulders if he can get it done. I just have a strange feeling about us scoring points this year unless we keep most everything the way it was. We have a lot of talent coming back at the skilled positions. Just ride the wave, coach.
