We're gonna have to buy a new bulletin board
Anyone else think we're a tad underrated? SI.com has us #100 which is behind Toledo (#82), Washington (didn't win a game last year), Utah State, Arkansas State, Florida Atlantic, Syracuse, and Northern Illinois. Really.

After the top 25 they know nothing. Come to think of it, after about the top 5 they know nothing.

Looking at the schedule right now in the preseason, I believe Troy is probably the third best team we'll face this year, behind Boise State and probably Missouri. I would put Troy right up there with CMU. Troy team is loaded with talented players, has a slew of BCS transfers and very good talent at the skill positions. This is a team that had LSU down 31-3 last year in Baton Rouge! I keep reading a lot of people talking about how well we're going to need to play to beat Boise State. I think the same came be said for Troy.

I agree Troy will be a BiG challenge. Troy is better than Mizzou, IMO. I'm not sold on Mizzou...I think they take a step or two back this year and, well, we own them anyway.
IF BG can go 2-2 in the first 4 games, I will be ecstatic. Then, time to get going in the MAC and get to Detroit Dec 4.
GO FALCONS!!!!!!

Makes sense. We're a team that struggled through much of last season, then dispatched its coaching staff. Why wouldn't we be underdogs against Troy?
As for the season. At this point, it's all about success in the MAC. It would be glitzy, but going 0-4 in our OOC schedule, then running the table in the MAC, including the MACC game, would be awesome.

Not to get ahead of ourselves but if Boise State comes in on Sept. 26 at 3-0 (this would include home wins over #10 Oregon and Miami(OH) and a road win at Fresno State) I'm guessing they would be the highest ranked team to ever play at the the Doyt. They would be right on the cusp of the top 10 if they are undefeated coming into BG.

6 points seems pretty low. I would have guessed it would start at double-digits. They should be the class of their conference, and we have nothing but questions.

What?..nothing but questions? I guess on defense as we only return 3 starters. On offense we return one of the top offenses in the league--maybe the new coaching staff is the question mark.

we will need to leverage every ounce of talent and rely on the Doyt to help beat Troy. They are clearly the superior team. In times past, we would have a brilliant offensive game plan and high emotion save the day. Dont expect this to happen under the new regime.

Would these be the same brilliant offensive gameplans that consistently failed to control the ball & thus the clock last year? The same gameplans that prevented us from winning games late when all we needed were a couple first downs? I think we can survive without those game plans.
As to the having high emotion that is about the most laughable thing I've ever heard. Yeah, we came out with high emotions to compete and or win against BCS competition, but we consistently came out flat and uninspired in important games in the Gregg Brandon regime. Year in and year out we completely s**t the bed in key conference battles.
Gregg Brandon was a lousy head coach. He ran a crap program and couldn't even make up for it with consistent on field success. In 6 years he played for (and lost) only one MAC Championship. This, despite being favored quite a few times. He was a solid recruiter who consistently failed to develop talent, and routinely put teams out there that played below their talent level.
I don't care if Clawson proves to be a terrible head coach. I'd gladly take my chances with change over the consistent mediocrity and lack of discipline we got from Brandon's teams. He couldn't get out of town quick enough for me.

Just remember...Greg Christopher sat down across a table from Brandon and shook hands on a 2 year deal. We still pay him every other Friday this year along with Clawson. Makes no sense. We have budget problems at BGSU and with these types of decisions I am beginning to understand why.

Cowboyjoe...It's very simple and if you would pay attention to what many have said...in any case it seems it must be said again...
when we lose games...we lose money plain and simple. Brandon didn't win games in his last two years here therefore he got canned. If Clawson comes out swingin' and gets us a mac championship and bowl game win one year then has two terrible seasons the next, his fate will be the same.
For the sake of some of you who have him on your ignore list, I'll do you a favor and not quote him...
In any case, Troy will be a pretty tough test regardless of what anyone says. I'm surprised that Troy isn't a bigger point favorite. I'm sure though that Clawson will come out swinging in the first game just to see how we stack up against an offense that isn't our own team.
