Toledo Spread Offense

Post by Rollo83 »

We've debated the merits of the spread offense here before. I for one think its an equalizer when lesser talented teams play more talented teams.

Interesting to see the Rockets running a more wide open spread offense this year. They always ran a more pro-style offense under Amstuz and with Gradkowski. Seeing them switch to the spread this year kind of brings out the good and the bad with that offense.

Watching them carve up Colorado last night reminded me of our game at Wisconsin when Omar took us up and down the field all game. No doubt its a potent offense when you have a quarterback and skilled position players that understand it and can execute it.

The problem with this offense is just what we are seeing at Toldeo this year. Sometimes, you score so quickly that it puts added pressure on your defense because they spend an inordinate amount of time on the field. Plus, incomplete passes stop the clock and extend the game. Colorado ran 21 more offensive plays that Toledo last night.

If you've got a strong defense to go with the spread offense its the best of both worlds...see the Florida Gators.

I can't believe how terrible Colorado's progam has gotten. I thought Hawkins was supposed to be the savior for them.

Colorado lost an emotional game Sunday night to Colorado State and had to turn around and fly thru two time zones and play last night.

UT, I must say, looked 2 steps faster all night. I wonder if Dan Hawkins wishes he was still at Boise State.

Cody Hawkins is the biggest case of nepotism in all of NCAA. He looks downright horrible out there and they have no skill players.

Their WRs were pedestrian, they couldn't cover anyone. Only player I saw worth a darn was their tailback (thanks H20!!!!!!!!!!) (Scott I wanna say).

That being said Toledo gave it to them and didn't let up. Good W for the Mac.

Combine that W w/CMU, BGs (knock on wood) wins, the Mac earned some credit this weekend for being better then most think.

Thier tailable was awfully good- why in God's name he didn't carry forty times is beyond me. The QB was bad and didn't get much help from some huge drops that prevented long gains. We actually kicked out of bounds the last two times to keep their tailable from getting the ball to return.
