Ouch:

Jarvis suffered a lacerated kidney in the game vs. BC and is out for the season. Apparently the KSU staff is going for a medical redshirt.
Best of luck to him and thoughts and prayers for a speedy and complete recovery - that is really serious stuff right there.

I would be surprise if he will be able to play at all with one kidney

You really only need 1/2 to 1/4 kidney to have normal function, so I'm not surprised no one every noticed he only had one. If it heals fine, I doubt it would keep him from playing in the future. Hope he recovers quickly

His career's done folks. I only have one kidney and was told I would never get clearance to do a contact sport, join the military or any other act that would put the one kidney in harm. Depending on his health history and his lifestyle, he may not be able to live long with 1/4 of a kidney, at least not without dialysis.

To say that sucks is an understatement, but it does. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Not necessarily true, several players have been permitted to play football with only one kidney (situations similar to Jarvis's)

Oh, and you are right, 1/4 kidney function given lifestyle may not be very good, I should have said stated that normally functioning Kidneys are very efficient, such that 1/4 is capable of doing what 2 functional ones can. And good news for Jarvis is that the Left kidney is usually the larger one.

What I found surprising about the news story on this as reported in the Akron Beacon Journal (known lately as the Akron Zips journal for over-hyped athletics) is the comments from coach Doug Martin. Suggesting that if the medical red shirt isnt granted then Kent State should storm the NCAA and burn it down.
Kent State inciting riotous actions....aren't they 0-1 in that activity?
Also he waxed on about their team will definately be going to a Bowl....this year!

Martin is feeling the heat over at Kent State. Every year he says this is the year KSU breaks through and wins it all...and never finished better than 6-6. I saw that comment about burning the NCAA down and was like "What??".
A damn shame about Jarvis...the kid is fun to watch. I hope he heals quickly.
