We are Bowl Bound

Just got an email from the president of the Charlotte Alumni Assoc. and which it states that... This is direct quote from Paul Krebs, Assistant VP for Student Affairs & Director of Athletics: "The good news, BGSU will be going to a post season bowl game. For only the second time in our history, we will be involved in back to back bowl bids. The bad news, we still do not know which game will select the Falcons. I feel very good about our opportunity in the GMAC Bowl in Mobile and still feel strongly that we will end up in this game. But nothing is certain. We hope to know within the next day. If not GMAC, we will most likely be in Boise, Vegas, or Shreveport. I will keep you posted and notify as soon as we are selected."
:D :D :D :D :supz: :supz::supz::supz:

So it would apprear that all our basic X-mas wish has been granted. Now the only question is which one. Personally, i'm hoping for shreveport.

Youngstown is glitzier.

But it isn't as warm.

I'd take it.

Excluding us, whom do we know to be in those games at this point?

Still won't believe it until I see the official announcement.

Nonetheless ...

GMAC - Memphis is in.
Boise, Vegas and Independence (Shreveport) are still all up in the air.

Does this mean that San Jose is off the board?

Memphis has accepted a GMAC invitation.

The other games aren't settled.

ESPN.com is projecting

-- Oklahoma State or Iowa State for the Independence.
-- New Mexico or Wyoming for the Las Vegas
-- Georgia Tech or Virginia for the MPC Computers Bowl in Boise.

In each case, the latter picks seem more likely to me.

Again, you're likely spot on.

The buzz from the Toledo and Miami camps is that the MAC champion will play in Detroit. The loser of the title game will go to San Jose.

Schadenfreude: Assume you mean winner of the MACC game. Don't you think it a little odd that the WINNER goes to Detroit and the LOSER goes to San Jose?

I don't like the idea of Boise, but if it's all we have, I'll take it. And being that I work here at Virginia and have seen UVa first hand, I would not like like the idea of facing off against this team. That's just my opinion.

I'll take whatever we get and be happy, of course.

I like Boise ... just because I love watching games (albeit on TV) on that blue turf!

Actually, no.

First of all, we need to dance with who brung us -- and the Motor City Bowl was there for us when no one else cared. They deserve our best.

Also, while I want to travel and I am happy for opportunity to do so -- Motor City Bowl would have been a popular choice for Bowling Green, judging by the tone of this board.

If you are looking for irony, how about Akron potentially playing in Hawaii?

OK, maybe not as firm as I like my news.

Most likely the bowls have talked things out, are waiting for the final word on the last two games effecting the team pool, and have their picking order established.

Never mind why so many MAC teams are going. Lets focus on the opportunity. This kicks a door open a lot of people can't close. It puts "Bowl Game" on half of the MAC's media guides. It gets pushed on recruits. Even with the "yeah but thats because there weren't any other teams eligible" arguments, fans at AKRON are talking bowl games. Its going to push a 12 game season over the top. That will in-turn, assure more bowls being formed.

Communism is dead. There are three new Star Wars movies. The GOP controls all of the federal government. No pro football in L.A. The Red Sox won the world series. The NHL is in Arizona. Akron's in a bowl game.

Imagine somebody coming out of a 15 year coma trying to get a grip on this.
