Freddie B gettin' some love

Watching the BSU/FSU game, one of the guys calling the game selected Freddie Barnes as his fantasy pick at WR. Based on his outstanding performance over the first two weeks it is a pretty obvious selection, but I always get a good feeling when I see one of our guys get some recognition like this.
Freddie has been a star throughout his career, but I am VERY excited to see what 2009 has in store for him!

FB is taking it to another level this year. Boise State had 8 plays tonight of 60+ yards.

BSU won 51-34.
BG will have to play excellent ball to beat the Broncos.

I'm sure Freddie will be getting some NFL looks before the season is over. If he bulks up, I can easily see him being a TE. Boise game was weird, their offense was explosive but Fresno played a pretty poor game on both sides of the ball. Make no mistake, Boise deserves their ranking and they have a ton of team speed, but I felt at the end of the game that had Fresno limited their mistakes and turnovers, it would have been a closer outcome.

Yeah I watched that mention of Barnes last night and got a huge smile. And speaking of Boise ... they look very beatable. They are extremely good, but FSU had a running back who looks like a bigger version of Willie Geter just go ballistic against the BSU defense. BSU allowed some deep passing and their defensive line was excellent only at times and at others was pushed around. I think we've got a chance to shock the world. And have you noticed how EVERYBODY is overlooking BG on Boise's schedule and is only looking at Tulsa as a potential roadblock? Man I hope some of our players watched that game last night ...

He'd have to bulk up A LOT to be an NFL Tight End. I thought the same thing about a bigger, stronger Steve Sanders and even he is too small to be an NFL Tight End. I mean, have you SEEN Alge Crumpler squeezed into his Titans uniform???

Barnes has about as much chance playing TE in the NFL as you or I do. He's at least 2-3 inches too short, and that's assuming his 6'2 is even remotely accurate. He's also about 40-50 pounds underweight, again assuming his 206 is remotely accurate. Then there is the fact that he's never played the position, and has no experience blocking on the line.
If Freddie keeps producing he's sure to get a look by the NFL, be it a late round draft choice (would need a good 40 time) or as an UDFA. But it'll be at WR, not TE. There is no way in hell that a team sees Freddie Barnes and thinks to themselves, "He could be a good TE".

If the wildcat keeps catching on, Freddie has a little better shot of sticking somewhere. I think he's probably a long shot to make a roster, but if he keeps putting up numbers he might get a look.

BG needs to take advantage of Freddie's skills and get him in the backfield for something other than a run up the middle for short yardage! Run an option, do an end around, flea flicker, something!
But again, I stand by my claim from earlier this season: Freddie for Heisman!

Yeah, no TE play for Freddie. He's now only listed at 6'0. I will say this , I hope that Freddie's possible huge numbers doesn't mean that Tyler can't throw to anybody else. 2-3 other receivers need to step up and be counted on to spread the wealth. Freddie can't be somebody that teams can just focus all their attention on or will be a long season for us.
