He deserves it, too.
That's fantastic!

Here's the Plain Dealer article:

Omar gets Offensive POY, but Charlie Frye gets the Vern Smith award, for the MAC MVP. They say its the second time that neither the offensive or defensive POY didn't win the Smith award.
Kind of strange.

A remarkable accomplishment for a sophomore. Easiest thing in the world would have been to give it to Frye. Lots of credit to the whole offensive unit, but Omar has made the quickest splash of any player I can remember since Brian McClure.

...and hopefully we see a couple more years of even more success!

I think it makes sense to me, because if you take Charlie Frye off that Akron squad they're 1-10 instead of 7-4. If you take Omar off BG I think we still have the talent to win at least 6 games. Charlie was all UA had.
That said Omar had the better offensive year, so deserves the OPOY.

Non-topical note:
"The bowl had its best year in attendance -- 51,286 -- last year as Bowling Green beat Northwestern, 28-24. In 2002, Boston College beat Toledo, 51-25, in front of 45,761."
Topical note:
Omar got POY props, and which QB from what NW Ohio college, with all the hype coming into the season didn't?

You know, I think its fair. Frye is a great player who was saddled with a horrible environment, and this recognition isn't underserved. I think splitting the two up is a fair way to handle the situation.

Very nice honor for Omar and I can see giving the award to Frye. The guy put the Akron team on his back and carried them to victories.

Indeed.
Omar = Offensive POY
Bruce "I'll Never Be a Grad" Kowski = Overhyped POS

A smart SID and marketing department would sell next year's team as "Heisman trophy candidate Omar Jacobs and the BGSU Falcons".
All Omar, all the time....

Flipper:
You are spot on with that one. The Omar hype should begin at the bowl game and be relentless throughout the next 12 months.
