by It's the Journey...
So I watched the game on ESPN360 (which worked great for me by the way) and here are my thought.
1. Doyt Perry Stadium looked AMAZING!!!!! I can't wait to see what the actual attendance was.
2. Can anyone say interception??? This is a night I'm sure Tyler would love to wake up from
3. We cannot leave out D on the field that long.
4. We lost to the best team we've played in 10 years
5. We are still undefeated in the MAC!
6. I cannot wait to see Bowling Green in the front window next saturday.
GO Falcons! Beat Owho!!!!!

Amen to that!
We seem like we still have a lot to work out, but the last four weeks don't matter anymore. The season starts now.

1. Boise St. might be the best team we've seen in a long time. Definitely hoping they can burst into the national championship game, or at least a BCS game.
2. The Doyt was rockin' early and I only wished every home game was like that.
3. Although it was against a highly talented and ranked team, still too many mistakes on offense. Gibby mentioned on the radio tonight, they have to get these corrected because the false starts, dropped passes and turnovers are gonna kill this team heading into the MAC schedule.
4. That opening drive was a thing of beauty and not coming away with any points was very disappointing.
5. I hope Coach can get the ship righted for next week, I didn't like what I saw out of the team to start the second half, too many guys hanging their heads, and then the big run play. While a new coach is here, it's apparent some of the character issues from the Brandon regime still exist. Gibby mentioned on radio as well how disappointing it was to see the players so down to start the 2nd half.
6. Open the offense up, please? Many people remarked tonight about how the offense the last 2 weeks has eerily resembled some play calling from last year. I thought we were going to get away from that.
7. Excited about Pankratz and Pettigrew, it was good to see them get some PT, Pankratz can throw a dart and Pettigrew can scoot.

There is basically no way to slow down that Boise offense from what I saw. We shut down Jeremy Avery in the first half, but then the receivers started making plays. We pushed the safeties to the outside and then the tight ends started making plays. TCU shut down the offense last year in the bowl game, but TCU has one of the best defensive lines in the country. Honestly, as far as I can tell the way to beat Boise State is just to score more points than they will score on you and pray you get the ball last with time to do something.

I actually had to endure 3 (young) Tuledu fans sitting in front of me during this one. I take back everything I ever said about Miami being (our) my biggest rival. Beat the rockettes! Win the MAC!
The season starts now.

Boise State is the best team I have ever seen in the Doyt..better than the 2003 Miami team that finished in the top 10, better than the late 90's Mooshall team we drilled and better than anything Toledo ever brought here (bear in mind, I never saw Ealy play at the Doyt). Better than the 1992 East Carolina squad. Overalll, they were every bit as good as the Oklahoma team we opened 2004 against...
It's tough to truly gauge where we are. Great effort the first game, great effort the second game against a good team, not so good against the Herd...but that wasn't surprising given the fact that it was the second road game in a row and you're just going to see teams struggle early under a new coach.
The gulf between the two teams last night was/is so wide that it's tough to put a grade on the effort. We could have played perfectly ans still lost by two scores. I will say that the Oline really needs to tighten it up...that many false starts and the early snap in the second half are just not acceptable lapses this late in the year.
We may have found a new threat at WR in Justus Jones....lanky kid with good hands...reminded me a bit of Charles Sharon.
None of that matters now though...it's a clean slate and we still have the talent on hand to beat anyone in the MAC (CMU will be a real test). Let's hope the additional students and locals that turned out last night to see Boise come back for a few more games this year...
