Matt Norsic or Jerry Phillips?

Post by MarkL »

So is Matt our new kicker now and Jerry Phillips is set to handle kickoffs? Phillips has been inconsistent on FG kicking ... but it is clear he has a huge leg.

When we signed Phillips last year, Brandon said he would be both a kicker and a punter. With his leg, I gotta wonder if he is going to handle punts and kickoffs from here on out and have somebody else handle FG. Something to remember - very few people handle both kicking and punting. It just is too much on somebody's leg to do that much kicking all day long and all season long and expect to hit a clutch field goal as time expires.

A) Iovinelli is the punter.
B) Clawson said in the post game that Phillips was hurt this week, but he was going to give him a chance. When he got the FG blocked because of a low kick, he went with Norsic, but said Phillips is still the starter next week if healthy.

Phillips is the starter. He had a rough spot but was perfect against Ohio. Good to see Norsic step up and contribute when his # was called. He's from Parma Valley Forge and I hope he had a lot of family and friends in the stands.

And I LOVE seeing Phillips boom kicks into the end zone. Make them go 80 yards. I can't understand why you wouldn't kick it into the EZ every time, if capable.

I'm sorry, that was my bad ... I meant from next year on out after Iovenelli graduates. My bad ... Iovenelli is one of the best punters in the conference, no doubt. So Jerry got injured? Man I hope he's ok ... we've had more injuries than we need already this year.
