Just heard on ESPN radio that Tyrone Willingham has submitted his resignation. I guess we know where Urban Meyers will be going next.

Wow. Now THAT'S a shocker.
If its true, and any Utah fan believes that Meyer will be around next year, they're even more nuts than before.

It's true, I guess... nwofalcon, I'm sorry for having doubted you.

Now if South Bend can russle up some mountains, its a done deal for the Meyer family.

WOW what a complete shocker to me. I know he was on thin ice, but he came in with a style and attitude that set a strong tone. The Ws just didn't follow.

My question is now this, if Meyer is hired at Notre Dame, will his spread offense have the same difficulties Callahan's west coast offense is having in Lincoln?

I'm sure Urban "still has things to do here".

That news is staggering. I think it was the right thing to do. However it is still utterly amazing. At least some ND alum will get him a nice paying job for saving them the trouble of two more years.

I think it is almost totally without question that Urban Meyer will get the job. Will we learn Urban has been talking to Notre Dame the entire time?

I'm not sure who is more happy, Regis, or the Scalpers in South Bend.

I won't speak ill of their now former head coach. I think he was a class act and a good coach. I do think he wasn't the best fit for Notre Dame. He did some good things for the Irish, but not enough. Urban will have them breathing fire by next fall, and I suspect his arrival will boost recruiting instantly. If there was a head job he was born to get, this was it.

OK, its even more amazing. They fired him. I thought he resigned. That makes the news even more staggering given ND's habit of sticking with contracts.

think someone found out Urban was leaning toward taking the Florida job and ND thought that if they wanted him they had to act fast???

Does ND realize that Mrs. Urban Myer did not like her first stint in South Bend? If she doesn't like South Bend, will Urbie actually go there? You know who wears the pants in that family.

My source said Urban told Washington and Florida within the past few days that he was not interested in either position.

I think Urban has the best chance of any new head coach to go to ND since Lou Holtz. He doesn't have the stink of Holtz being shown the door, or an age discrimination scandle. He doesn't have a faulty resume, or being hired because "the one you wanted" turned out to be a liar. Plus Urban has basically been golden for four years, doing the near impossible. He brings instant credibility as a winning coach, with BCS experience. Having ND as one of the schools he has a buy-out clause for actually helps him going in. Having a true wide-open offense also buys him street cred. with recruits Ty would have not gotten.

Florida now has to deal with Spurrier at USC, the stink of Zook's stint, and I'm sure Urban's wife isn't gung-ho to wear blue and orange.

The down side is that ND fans will expect national titles even faster than before. Expectations for Urban will be higher than ever.

Here is the thing though. If Urban's wife doesn't like South Bend Regis will fly her to NYC for the week days. Plus I don't think most folks LIKE South Bend. But unlike some places, most of the fans and donors aren't local anyway. I think the ND fans will gladly buy her a house anyplace, and fly her anyplace to get Urban at this point.

The real loser here is Florida. Maybe Butch Davis will wind up there!

Urban will instantly make ND a winner again. They'll be in contention for the BCS title within two years. He's going to make life very difficult for Lloyd Carr and Jim Tressel when it comes to recruiting the Midwest.

On the plus side, maybe we can squeeze a game out of them.

Assuming he gets the gig, of course....
