Just received this from the athletic department:

The BGSU Hockey team hosts Providence in a pair of non-conference games as part of Family Weekend 2009 this Friday and Saturday, October 23 and 24.

With the Saturday game taking place on the heels of a BGSU Football home game earlier in the day (noon at The Doyt vs.Central Michigan), BGSU Athletics today announced a special ticket offer for loyal Falcon fans planning to attend both.

All fans showing a ticket stub from the BG-Central Michigan football game from earlier in the day will receive a general admission ticket for ONLY $5 to the BG-Providence hockey game.* Doors at the BGSU Ice Arena will open at 6:00pm, with the puck scheduled to drop at 7:05 p.m.

$5? Pssh. They should just let people get into the hockey game free after having gone to the football game. Now that'd be a deal. Sure they'd lose a small bit of revenue, but not having to pay is a HUGE incentive to come to a game which you otherwise might not have gone to. And it'd only be a one-shot deal, so if it didn't succeed in increasing attendance amiably, then you never have to do it again.

I just hope that the family weekend jinx doesn't extend to the hockey rink.

We still have a hockey team? Is it a club sport now?

Look, you're probably going to say I'm just picking on you here, and maybe I am, but you're really going to complain about them not giving a big enough discount on a hockey ticket? Are you serious?

As someone who has graduated and who would be taking advantage of that discount if I didn't have to work anyway, I'm going to be grateful that the BGSU athletic department is trying to give people a break on ticket costs while still ensuring they earn some money on tickets for the game, instead of complaining because it isn't free.

The way things are going, the club team could beat the varsity...
