Freddie makes the Top Ten!
http://www.bgsufalcons.com/news/2009/10 ... 92348.aspx
And I think he has a GREAT shot against these finalists:
He is joined by Dezmone Briscoe (Kansas), Vincent Brown (San Diego State), Eric Decker (Minnesota), Marshwan Gilyard (Cincinnati), A.J. Green (Georgia), Jordan Shipley (Texas), Demaryius Thomas (Georgia Tech), Golden Tate (Notre Dame), Mike Williams (Syracuse)
I just hope that major hot dog Tate does not win it.

If Barnes wins it or not, that is some great company to be listed with. Every guy on there I'd be glad if my football team drafted them.
My pick would be Shipley, even though his numbers aren't as outstanding as Freddie's.

Honestly, how can they NOT give this award to Freddie? His numbers far exceed anything these other guys have put up, especially in the number of receptions department. GO FREDDIE!!! Bring home the Hardware!

Just like anything else: But Golden and Jordan played against top notch competition all year... If Freddie had to play against that all year... WAAAAAAH

There it is...but, Troy leads the Sun Belt, Mizzou is 4-3, Marshall is 5-3, Boise State is unbeaten, Ohio's got a solid team (that totally peed the bed in Peden the other day). BG's played a pretty tough sked....not BCS level but so what? Freddie is off the wall...
Good luck, FB.

If Tate wins it, I hope they don't have a marching band at the awards ceremony. Azzclown.
I don't expect Freddie to be honored, no matter how much he deserves it, but if he keeps up this 10-15 catches for high 100's and at least a score, I don't know how he can be kept out of at least the finalists list. With all the Tuesday/Thursday nights on the ESPN family coming up, he'll get his chance to show his stuff, for sure.
I wonder why that Page kid from UT didn't make the list. I mean, reading the Toledo blogger in the MAC Blogger Roundtable every week, Freddie doesn't hold a candle to his skills. Hmmmm...

I wonder how many targets Freddie gets compared to the other guys? I got to believe he's seeing the ball thrown his way a lot more often than the other guys. First, we are throwing the ball a lot since we don't have a runing game. Secondly, he's Sheehan's guy...he locks on Freddie often and just waits for him to come open...not even looking at his second and third reads...especially in important situations. Lastly, the rest of our receving corp doesn't have much experience.

Well, Freddie's chances just got slightly better as Eric Decker from Minnesota is out for the year.

If Texas and UC go undefeated it will come down to Shippley and Gilyard.

There's a certain percentage of Rockette fans...I think that percentage is somewhere between 92-99%..that has this nauseating habit of trying to horn in on any accolades another MAC school's athlete receives. When Omar was rolling it was "What about Bruuuuuuce"...now we have to hear this Page crap when Freddie is so clearly the man.

Just goes to prove that 87% of all statistics are made up on the spot. I think Barnes is very deserving of any awards he gets- his transition from QB has been pretty remarkable. But UT receiver Robin Bailey is definitely underappreciated- due to the incredible depth of Rocket receivers, Bailey hasn't had the opportunity to show it like Barnes but Barnes is pretty much a product of the system. At UT he would be the fourth or fifth best receiver not counting redshirt freshmen or running backs. Bailey has graciously sacrificed numbers in order to be the team player that Barnes hasn't become. Otherwise the Biletnikoff list would look like a Toledo roster, Page, Williams and at the top: Robin Bailey. But you'll all get a look at Mr. Bailey in a few weeks and realize that as good as Barnes is, Bailey and up and comers like Tim Cortazzo will make the Biletnikoff people embarrassed for Barnes' nomination. Remember the name: Robin Bailey.
And Flipper your comment about Rocket fans is ridiculous. We do no such thing.

I think it's unfair to say that Barnes isn't a team player. I think the fact that he willingly made the transition to WR shows that he cared more about the success of the team. He just happens to be the guy out there who gets open and breaks plays. I doubt very seriously that he would complain in a press conference if he didn't get the ball thrown to him 10 times...although I doubt that opportunity would ever come anyway.

Irregardless of your statistics, I couldn't care less.

Oh, someday, Grasshopper, your BS meter will go off everytime h2oville posts something, too!
Personally, I thought the whole thing was quite amusing.. you know, for a Rocket.

I have to imagine the thing that might hurt Freddie, besides the lack of elite competition relative to some of the other semifinalists, is his YPC. Despite having the triple crown of receptions, yards, and TD's (tied), he is ranked 296th with 10.6 yards per reception.
The other semifinalists, by comparison...
Thomas - 24.9
Brown - 17.3
Green - 16.6
Tate - 16.3
Briscoe - 16.2
Williams 15.8
Decker - 15.2
Gilyard - 14.3
Shipley - 12.3
Freddie - 10.6
Definitely doing less with more quality to his situation. This is not meant to disrespect or minimize the importance that Freddie has to this team, which I think is tremendous, but I think that this shortcoming will be one of the thing that hurts him in voter's eyes.
