Miami vs Toledo ...

Post by MarkL »

I'm watching UT/Miami right now - late in the third, Miami is up 31 - 17. Miami looks more alive than all this year and Toledo looks banged up. If this holds up, Miami gets their first win of the year, leaving EMU as teh only winless team in the MAC. Got both of these coming up in the next month. I like our chances against both, but both have the potential to be very dangerous.

And also ... I think there are more participants in the game than fans in the seats!

Toledo has closed the gap to 31-24. About 12 minutes to play.

Not much help for BG today, Ohio took down Ball State 20-17, while Kent State defeated Western Michigan 26-14. Never thought that a late season showdown between Kent State and Temple would have such big implications, but there you go.

Temple gets a late score to take down Navy 27-24. The Owls are now 6-2. They lost their first two games of the season by close margins, so it's not outlandish to say that Temple is a few key plays away from being unbeaten and in the top 25.

Losing 31 - 6 to Penn State is close? Anyway ... yeah Temple is good this year. Very close to being 7-1. I expect they'll sweep the rest of their schedule and face CMU in the MAC title game. So yeah, a 11-2 Temple team going into bowl season is a real possibility. Who saw THAT one coming a few years back??

Miami(OH) gets their first win of the year!

Normally, there's no reason to be happy about a RedSkinHawk win (and we still have that Oxford trap to visit as well), but I think I'll make an exception. :D

Wait a minute, I thought they lost to Villanova and Connecticut. Now I look back and see that the Uconn game was last season. Damn.

You know though, if Temple does run through the MAC without losing, they will have earned it. Of course, if BG had beaten CMU or Ohio and finished 7-1 without having the opportunity to play Temple, I think there would be a lot of blood boiling on this message board. Luckily we won't have that scenario play out.

AND, Miami beats slUT! Ha! So much for Toledo being a MAC contender down the stretch.

I'm glad MiAudi got a win. A winless MiAudi playing BG is a GUARANTEED loss for BG.

I 100% agree. We would have had it coming even more than we do already. I still believe in curses and the family weekend continues and so will losing to Miami in Oxford... :(

Hey, we beat them in 05 in Oxford ... 42 - 14 ... one of the most fun BG games I have ever seen. Three safeties, five picks, first game for Omar back from injury. It can be done!

I don't think we're jinxed playing in Oxford any more than we are playing against Miami at home. We haven't beaten them hardly at all at the Doyt this decade either. It's just one of those things, where one team for whatever reason just has the upper hand. I'm sure if you look around the MAC, Kent State, Ohio (though not this year) and Buffalo are probably saying the same thing about us, their seeming inability to beat BG. For Buffalo it took a double-overtime miracle for them to finally break through. Kent had that blowout over us on family weekend in 2006, but that game was a total aberration when you look at the whole decade or so.

I do think we beat Miami this year though. At the beginning of the season I actually had Miami beating us, but then again I also had Ball State beating us too. I didn't realize just how bad both teams were back in August. We might only be 3-5, but we haven't lost to a truly BAD team all year. Marshall was arguably the worst team we've lost to and they're around .500.

Rightupinthere, do you still think we lose to the Redhawks? I know you called for us to lose there a few weeks ago.

Something ridiculous I just learned about the BG-Miami(OH) series... BG trails the all-time series 19-41-5, but leads 3-1 in games played on Halloween. Spooky!

Memories of '89 are still quite fresh in my head. If you recall, the last win of the Redskins [as they were called at the time] was against BG in 1987. The next season BG couldn't beat a winless MiAudi [tied]. The losing streak was broken by BG in Oxford. I still remember nearly being beheaded by a goal post.

History is a wonderful teacher and BG has proved to be an excellent balm for a struggling Redskins squad. I believe we lose in Oxford.

correct me if I'm wrong (I don't feel like looking it up this morning) but doesn't BG hold a winning record against the entire MAC except for Miami?

I believe you're correct on that. A couple of teams are close, Central Michigan trails BG 21-18, and Toledo trails 38-30 with some ties in there. One of the other schools is also close (I want to say Northern Illinois) but I can't find their all-time mark against us.

Most of the East teams Bowling Green is leading by double digits all-time, like Ohio, Buffalo, and Kent State.
