Can we PLEASE recruit a kicker this coming year. Someone who can consistently hit a field goal inside the 20?
I'll ask Santa for one too. But this has been a weakness for a few years of years. It would be nice to have that fixed.

You must have forgotten about Sinisia Vrvilo (this player from BGSU the last two college football seasons who handled the kicking duties).
He happened to be 3/3 from 20-29 yard range and 3/5 from 40-49 last year.
The year before he was even better going 5/5 from 20-29 yards, 4/4 from 30-39 yards, and 6/8 from 40-49.
In fact whenever he did attempt a FG within 20 yards (all being PATs) he was 88/90.
I would say he was more than serviceable. How quickly we forget.

I've let at least ONE of the "powers that be" know about Carey Spear, a K/P from Mayfield HS.. He kicked 2 - 47yd and a 54 yd. FG in the same game earlier this season...and kickoffs went into the endzone for touchbacks MOST times... of course,in college you can return kicks; in HS...it's an automatic T-Back.

I am willing to cut some slack this year. Remember Phillips is a true freshman. Kicking at Clyde to BG is not a small adjustment. He also got injured this year.

Also remember - Phillips was recruited as both a kicker and a punter. It might just be that he is more valuable to the team as a punter and KOS with his huge leg than as a FG kicker. We'll just see.

How wonderful that sounds. Now lets look at a few more stats shall we....last year we were 9 for 16 in field goals, you seemed to leave out that he was 50% 3 of 6 in the 30-39 yard range, with a long of 44. He also put 4 KO's out of bounds compared to 0 from the opponents.
You are correct that the year before was considerably better, after all we can forgive anyone for missing from beyond 50 yards out, and hitting 75% beyond 40 isn't to shabby at all.
This year we are currently 11 of 19 including 2-4 inside the 20 yard line. Let me just repeat that. 2 of 4 inside the 20 yard line.
So while I didn't mean to dog on your boy, I'll stand by the major premise of my initial post which was, can we please recruit a kicker.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

Anyone who uses the term "true freshmen" ought to be taken out and flogged. Then of course, those who say "young freshmen" ought to suffer a worse fate. Red shirt freshmen and freshmen are fine. The other uses ought to garner an "F" from the English 101 prof.

Since you say so.

Great input. I guess anyone using the term "fifth year senior" gets castrated.

I think that's a given.
