Re: No more Bowling in Bowling Green?
I wonder if BCS schools would be able to complete their schedules if non-BCS schools and FCS teams refused to play them?
At least they would not be able to chalk up easy wins to become bowl eligible.

How many D-II teams could they schedule in their place? There's always somebody who would be willing to take that big money payout.Redwingtom wrote:I wonder if BCS schools would be able to complete their schedules if non-BCS schools and FCS teams refused to play them?

Seriously, what a load of sh!t...I cannot believe this is even being seriously talked about. The whole idea is assanine and would HAVE to violate some anti-trust law or something. Screw you, BCS Schools!

Re: No more Bowling in Bowling Green?
Screw the BCS...I am soooooooooo sick of their crap. My dad and I were just talking about this today. He firmly believes the WAC, Mountain West, Conference USA, MAC & Sun Belt conferences should start their own division and play for a National Championship using playoffs...like every other division. I know we all (or most of us) want to see BG and the MAC get to the next level but the BCS conferences are not gonna let it happen. Period. They have made it no secret they want all the bowl revenue for themselves.
Like Tom said, refuse to play the BCS schools and schedule more games against the other Non BCS leagues. Heck, bring up a couple 1-AA conferences into the mix. The BCS is ruining college football and the greed is disgusting. Beebe is an ass just like the former SEC commish who started all this BS. GREED....pure and simple.

Re: No more Bowling in Bowling Green?
Can you say Monopoly? What the BCS is doing from a business aspect is kind of illegal if you ask me. This is not aloud in the business world so why should it be any different in this case. The BCS is shuting out the non bcs schools from BCS bowls and National Championships. How does an undefeated Utah (from last year) not make the national championship? How is Boise State not in the top 3 right now? Yes Boise State doesnt have as hard of a schedule but look at Ole Miss. They played two FCS schools this year and they may get into a BCS bowl. Its funny I am currently writing a synthesis paper for my Comp 2 class about the BCS and how they should switch to a playoff system, and now this comes up.
Its pretty shitty that after these last 10 years, non BCS schools are finally showing they can play against the BCS and then this come in. The last thing i ever wanted is for BGSU to go back down to the FCS, but after reading that I think it would atleast be better football. At least in the FCS things are not shady and sadistic. How many times in college football history has there been controversy's? Not only that but how many times do you see big schools cheat there way to the top. Right now I look at college football like this, kinda like the movie the waterboy. The BCS is UL and the non BCS is the muddogs of SCLSU. Only reason I bring that up is cause the BCS are a bunch of a?#holes like the coach of UL lol.
SCREW THE BCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: No more Bowling in Bowling Green?
F**k that.
But, I am still not in favor of the non-BCS FBS schools splitting off into their own level. It won't teach the BCS anything, and it'll make official what a lot of people already think, that we aren't in the same class as the BCS schools. We would essentially appear to be a sort of minor league. I am proud of the fact that at the end of the day, Bowling Green is still in the top division of college athletics. We may not be members of a conference which gets an automatic bid, but we are still in that same class. I would hate to see us (and every other mid-major) become officially second-class citizens in the world of college sports. The perception is already there in the minds of some BCS fans, but if we did split off, we'd only be making it official.
In a way it'd be like saying "You're right, we aren't as good or as cool as you guys and we never will be." And to me, that's Bullsh!t, and I am not anywhere near being ok with caving in like that. I want BG and every other mid-major to be a thorn in the side of the BCS for as long as it sticks around. We should p!ss them off and chap their azzes by refusing to bend over to their BS. Continue to win games, beat them at every opportunity and show that being a Mid-Major doesn't have to have any effect on our ability to do it just as well if not better than the major programs. In essence, there should be no "Ok, we'll take our ball and go play over here now, thanks for letting us tag along for awhile." Instead it should be a kind of "F**k you. We're still here."

Re: No more Bowling in Bowling Green?
Let the BCS go I say. Then stop playing them in the season. In ten years nobody inside of the BCS will care anymore. I'm not sure a lot of people outside of the BCS care as much as some think. Under all of this is the older issue of the BCS schools having wanted to get the lesser leagues to spin-off to their own subdivision. I don't see anything other than that under this.
From observation, I've noticed somebody like this Beebe guy, get really anxious when the hounds are close to crashing their party. There really are people in places of power, that truly believe only a few conferences should really be playing the "highest" level of football. They will throw a disruptive monkey wrench into the works if they can, because it isn't their program that suffers. They know they can toss these curve balls at the lower echelons all the time. Like with the old fights over attendance, stadium size, etc.

Exactly, RUIT. As soon as BCS conferences started to fail to meet their bowl tie-ins, a clock went off in someone's head somewhere, and this was just a matter of time.
I understand that the issue of whether we should continue to compete in the FBS is highly debatable and that I probably see it differently than many do. However, it is clear that a disadvantage of staying in the FBS is that we are in an arena in which all key decisions are made by others. The power and money in FBS resides with the major conferences, and we are at their mercy. If we want to stay in FBS, we have to continue to live with it.
