UT game will NOT be "easy"

Several folks have mentioned that one of the reasons for no TV of the BG-UT game was because one of the teams (guess which one) was pretty pathetic... But take a look at some numbers ... and statistics...

TOLEDO could become "bowl eligible" with a win, even if it's #6, and ruin BG's chances for a bowl bid themselves..

TOLEDO had TWO RB's run for a total of 300 yds. on Friday... Considering the fact that we have had some "ahem" trouble with strong running teams this year, this is a red flag, IMO.

In short, I'm expecting a real shootout, with a very high "over/under" total... could be like the game (4yrs ago?) when they scored on a very late possession and beat us at home. We simply MUST defend the run better on Friday, not to mention putting some real pressure on whoever is the QB....and the "soft" pass coverage we showed at times against Akron needs to be toughened.

I'm pretty nervous about this game too. I remember the last time Toledo came to the Doyt with something on the line. The double overtime heart breaker kept us out of the MAC Championship Game (if I'm remembering correctly). Hopefully we can take care of business! Is it Friday yet?

You got it right it won't be easy. Toledo is good at taking advantage of opponents' weaknesses on defense, but when they play a truly good team, they crumble. So two running backs combined for 300 yards last game ... vs Eastern Michigan, the worst run defense in the country, by far. That same rushing attack just collapsed vs Central Michigan. Their passing offense is very good, but CMU's pass rush basically shut down the passing offense. So if our defense comes out fired up, we'll be fine. If they come out sloppy, we could be in a world of trouble and find ourselves in a shootout.

I do believe that Toledo came into the Doyt at 5-6 in 2007. They got their brains beat in. So Bourbonfalcon's idea that Toledo had nothing to play for in 2007 is factually inaccurate, they were in the exact same position they are in now. 38-10 BG. Though, I don't think there's any doubt that the Rockets will be motivated and will play their hardest, with a possible bowl bid on the line.

Toledo had 300 yds on the ground, but they were playing Eastern Michigan. Oh, I'm quaking in my boots. Nothing to see here. They'll probably get some yards against us, but in all seriousness I think we've done a much better job against the run this year than the last few seasons. If Toledo beats us, it will be because they killed us through the air. Our pass coverage stinks. It's been terrible virtually all season, and honestly, I don't expect it to improve much in any one game. That's my primary concern. The offense seems to have shook off their red zone woes from earlier in the season and are scoring TDs almost every time down. If Sheehan and Barnes play well and Clawson calls a good game, it'll be very hard for Toledo to keep up. Their only chance is to kill it through the air.

The UT game is never easy.

I don't know who will win. I know who should win (at least on paper). Our team has a better record, on a tougher schedule. Our team has faired better against common opponents.

A 6-6 record is not likely to get a MAC team into a bowl this year. Toledo really has nothing to lose with this game. The only thing they have to gain is bragging rights. I just don't know if that will be enough.

The question mark in my mind is which Toledo team will show up on Friday. There have been times when Toledo has passed the ball well, and times when they haven't. There have been times when they have run the ball well, and times when they haven't. There haven't been many times when their defense has looked good, but there have been times when our offense hasn't scored much.

I am inclined to believe that if our defense has a fair game, and Freddie has a big day, we'll be putting this one in the win collumn. However, nothing about it will be easy.

Go Falcons!

I'm always nervous for this game no matter what....until the end of the game. When the clock hits 0:00 and BG has more points, then I'm relieved. LOL!

BEAT TOLEDO!!!!!!!!!!!

The UT game is never easy? They've lost the last two against us by a combined score of 75-20...that sounds pretty easy to me. Their pass defense is horrid...abysmal..putrid...really bad. I really like our chances...

I like our chances, too, but this won't be a gimme.

I'm always intrigued to see how first-year coaches handle a big rivalry. Beckman has been a part of it, though it's his first as the HC and it is Clawson's first time.

Would love to see a B!G win and about 20 catches from FredEx!

I second the 20 catched by Freddie!!! That would be phenomenal! I just want the peace pipe to stick around another year! If we come out and attack like we did in the 2nd half of the Akron game, we will be just fine!
