Re: Bowl Projection
I'll take that! Won't be able to make it if it happens but will be happy to see BG in a bowl game again. This little thing called work will get in the way.

Re: Bowl Projection
CollegeFootballNews.com does not have BG among its Bowl Projections. Here are some of the teams they have going to a bowl over us...
UCLA - 6-5 with game left at USC (7-3)
Marshall - 6-5 with game at UTEP (3-8)
Arizona - 6-4 with games at Arz. St. (4-7) and USC (7-3)
Notre Dame - 6-5 with game at Stanford (7-4)
Wyoming - 5-6 with game at Colorado St. (3-8)
Connecticut - 5-5 with games against Syracuse (4-7) and South Florida (7-3)
They have all these teams grabbing "at large" bids over BG.

OK. I'm now cheering for USC, UTEP, Arizona State, USC again, Stanford, Colorado State, Syracuse, and South Florida.

I'm all for DC, that's five hours by car or train.

That's the same outfit that predicted Cincinnati vs Florida for the national championship last month...or some such nonsense. I'll take the other projections that have BG bowling!

Re: Bowl Projection
I'll throw my two cents worth in on our bowl chances, working on the assumption BG beats Toledo of course and that CMU, Temple, and Ohio get the MAC's bowl bids.
The ACC will not be able to fill it's obligation to the EagleBank Bowl or the GMAC Bowl creating 2 at-large opportunities, one of which will go to a MAC school.
The Big 10 can't fill their obligation for the Little Caesar's Bowl creating another at-large opportunity.
The Mountain West can't fill their obligation to the Humanitarian Bowl creating another at-large opportunity. If Wyoming loses at Colorado State this would create another at-large opportunity in either the Armed Forces or New Mexico Bowl.
These are the 7+ win teams in line for these at-large bids:
BG, NIU, Middle Tennessee, Idaho
Other teams who can get to 7 wins and get an at-large bid:
UConn with wins over Syracuse and South Florida
UCLA with a win over USC
Louisiana-Monroe with a win over Middle Tennessee
Louisiana-Lafayette with a win over Troy
Another situation that could work in BG's favor is if Oklahoma wins at home against Oklahoma State. In that case I think that Boise State would get the final at-large BCS bid. This would place Idaho in one WAC's bowl tie-ins and take them out of the at-large pool without being replaced there by a Big 12 school.
Alright to summarize then:
There will be anywhere from 4 to 5 at-large bids available.
There will be anywhere from 3 to 8 teams competing for these spots.

Re: Bowl Projection
If BG wins, Wyoming doesn't come into play as an at-large. Of course, if they win to finish 6-6 and fill a conference obligation, that still takes one at-large possibility off the table. So yeah, those damn Cowboys need to lose.

Re: Bowl Projection
1) I would LOVE the DC bowl (or any bowl but the DC bowl would be sweet for me)
2) Duke has to win 7 games to be bowl eligible, 6-6 doesn't get them in

Re: Bowl Projection
let me add, BG basketball is just up the road at Towson (Baltimore) on the 30th, so why not add an extra day to the (possible/hopeful) trip.
If BG gets DC, my week is setting up like this:
27th- cowbys/Redskins
28th BG/Temple
29th BG Bowl game
30th BG/Towson

Re: Bowl Projection
Listen I want BG to go just as much a the next guy especially to DC, only a 4 hour car ride for me. However, I must say I think the Bowl Selection Com. will look at the last time we went to a bowl and take a pass....
Re: Bowl Projection
Thanks for that correction about Duke. Didn't realize they played 2 FCS schools this season. I changed my above post to reflect that.BGSUVA wrote:1) I would LOVE the DC bowl (or any bowl but the DC bowl would be sweet for me)

Re: Bowl Projection
Our Tulsa bowl game disaster i don't think will change anything. Now this system obviously is flawed but they would be fools not to showcase a team with Freddie and Sheehan.

Re: Bowl Projection
I was under the belief that other than the BCS, the other bowls get to invite whomever they want dependant upon their tie ins first, but then they get to select whomever for the at larges. There really is no bowl selection committe?
