JD Brookhart got the axe from Akron this morning. The days of Charlie Frye are long gone...

Although Urban Meyer never took BG to a bowl game I would hesitate to say he underachieved.

This wasn't at all a surprise. With the new stadium and the right coach, Akron could be a significant force in this conference.

Knew it was coming for a while. I wish Akron would keep the guy.

With the new stadium and the last game drew 9,000, the AD needed to make the change. 4 losing seasons in a row...
I read in the Akron Beacon Journal they fired the whole staff. Isn't Walt Harris on this staff? Will be interesting to follow and see who they hire.

Walt Harris and somebody else who has head coaching experience, don't remember who, were both on there. I have to wonder if it was a case of two many hands on the steering wheel. It just seems so strange that Akron would stink so badly this year after a surprising 2008 5 win season and with basically everybody returning. Yes they had an injury to their backup QB after their starter got suspended, but Nicely played extremely well so you cannot blame their season on him. I pin this on the coaching staff. Good call by the athletic director.

Shane Montgomery is also on the staff...Miami HC for 4 years.
The recruiting coordinator was also let go or resigned due to some kind of NCAA infraction.
