Not quite sure if I like having all grass lots, but it will definitely be better than that horrid gravel...until it rains that is

The plan is to turn Lot 6 overflow (east of the stadium) into green space that uses grasses that can support seasonal and occasional traffic needs and offer other multipurpose uses. Existing concrete curbs will be demolished. The basic lot layout and lighting will be retained but landscape trees and improved drainage will be installed, along with a manual irrigation system. Construction should begin in March and the green lots would be ready for the 2010 football season.

rain, indeed. that's a lot of vehicles stuck in the mud.

Don't like that at all. Muddy mud-ness is all I can think of.

Also, one bonus to the gravel was a place to easily dump coals. Unless they provide hot coal barrels this could an issue.

My thought would be to pave the gravel lots and spruce up the landscaping in the medians/around the lots. I happen to like the median

LOL, I immediately thought "oh crap, what's Noel going to do?

I suppose the end game is that it will be cheaper to do and cheaper over time to have grass. Not to mention that it will only get huge usage about 6 or 7 weeks a year in football season and once or twice for those RV shows.

Well another thought about my beloved median is that they provide a starting/end point for the rows. Without the medians every 30 yards or so it could be a massive cluster.

I'm just envisioning the Wood County Fairgrounds parking lot at the corner of Poe & Haskins. Zoinks.

Grass parking lots?....fu**ing hippies....

Well all I can say is that the grass parking lot couldn't be the worst. I went to the Ball State game this year and my fiance and I had to park at a high school baseball field. It just rained and we had to drive over the dirt of the bases and was just muddy as all hell. We had to walk over is and it was just crappy! When we walked back to the car I saw there was a lady who was wearing high heals that walked through it. It was rather funny to see the high heels imprints in the mud.

Hopefully they will either paint lines or permanently install a type of dirt line (or maybe one with some cool looking bricks) to delineate the rows.

More green space will allow for more youth tournaments in the summer= increased revenue. I'm just not sure the benefit would outweigh the cost. More mowing and attention will need to be paid to that area. As well as any repair after big events: football, rv show, etc.

With the addition of new student parking around perry field house, the empty overflow lots have been somewhat of an eyesore. The additional of the Stroh Center, green space and landscaping should spruce this up this corner of campus.

I think this is a great idea. Our campus is in need of a facelift on so many levels and this will certainly help that section of campus. I can't believe it actually says there will be trees planted too! Wow! As for parking on grass, I can't tell you how many other schools I have seen this done in one way or another. I like the idea a lot and can't wait to see it take shape.

The golf course across the street from The Big House seemed to be pretty well organized last time I was there and I don't recall there being any lines painted or that....and for the record it didn't cost me a thing to go and someone else bought the beer....

Are we this bored, that not only did the original thread get duplicated, but people are repeating the same issues here?

Is dumping grill coals on the ground really that classy? Is having an ass-ugly stretch of land, which resembles a brownfield demolished factory site, presenting itself as the public face of BGSU and Bowling Green that cool? Is it going to rain every single football weekend, and every time it does, turn a still un-built grassy lot into mud? And how is this different from the massive use of grassy areas near the stadium now, which hasn't stopped tailgaters there, left cars stuck in the mud, etc?
