As reported on CBS:
Utah's top quarterback recruit has withdrawn his commitment, citing uncertainty in Urban Meyer's job status at the school.
Josh Portis, of Woodland Hills, Calif., told Rivals.com that he was frustrated that Meyer would not give him a straight answer when asked if the coach was staying at Utah.
"I haven't had a chance to talk to coach Meyer yet," Portis told Rivals.com late Tuesday. "They haven't really returned my calls."
Portis and Meyer last spoke on Saturday. Portis is considered a top five prospect in the country, a dual threat at quarterback. He could be considered an heir apparent to Alex Smith, who has been the key to Meyer's spread-option offense.
Portis is 6-feet-4, 200 pounds and runs the 40 in 4.57 seconds. He now lists Kansas State, Maryland, Oregon, Washington and LSU as his top choices. Kansas State seems to be the frontrunner. His school choice is critical because Portis intends to be a mid-semester enrollee and needs to decide his future in the next two weeks.
