Former Biletnikoff Award winners...

Post by Falconfreak90 »

Yeah, I'm still po'ed cuz Freddie didn't win. I thought this was interesting, though...all the past winners of this award:

1994: Bobby Engram, Penn State
1995: Terry Glenn, Ohio State
1996: Marcus Harris, Wyoming
1997: Randy Moss, Marshall
1998: Troy Edwards, Louisiana Tech

1999: Troy Walters, Stanford
2000: Antonio Bryant, Pittsburgh
2001: Josh Reed, LSU
2002: Charles Rogers, Michigan State
2003: Larry Fitzgerald, Pittsburgh
2004: Braylon Edwards, Michigan
2005: Mike Hass, Oregon State
2006: Calvin Johnson, Georgia Tech
2007: Michael Crabtree, Texas Tech
2008: Michael Crabtree, Texas Tech

Now aren't Wyoming, Marshall and La Tech all non bcs teams? Sure most of the time the bcs players will get the award but come on. I guess I should just drop it. LOL.

You still rock Freddie!

Not surprisingly, there hasn't been a non-BCS winner in more than a decade. Just another indication that rich get richer.

Wasn't the BCS created in 98 or 99? So since the creation of the BCS no non-BCS player has won. hmmm.....

Also all before ESPN began ruining college football with their analysts "deciding" major things. Such as:
- in 2008, you need to be a Big 12 QB to win the Heisman
- the Big East is inferior, even though its record against other BCS conferences is extremely good in both regular season and bowls, and is in the top half in that regard
- the SEC and the Big 12 are the two best conferences, no questions asked
- a stud defensive player deserves less credit than a stud offensive player

The more I've watched the ESPN talking heads, the more I've realized that they are doing more harm than good to college football. Don't analyze. Let the viewers analyze. Just show the games and the sports news and comment. That's all we want.

I don't know if I would go as far as saying ESPN is ruining football. I think we all rely on them for giving us plenty more alternatives than just an ABC Ohio State game every Saturday afternoon.

I think their commentators are good too, especially Spielman...however for the Tool#1 award again my vote goes to Craig James for his "SEC man love". And the banter between Coach Lou and Mark May is getting tiresome.
There is no other way to finish a season other than yelling at the top of your lungs among BG's players holding the Peace Pipe aloft!

As someone who can remember college football BE (before ESPN), I can tell you fans now have it better with ESPN. I can remember watching Notre Dame Replay with Linsey Nelson and Paul Horning on Sunday mornings before NFL games. I remember watching Lee Corso's Indiana Football Highlight show on the Farm Bureau Network. I also remmber listening to Marv Holman call the Woody Hayes led Buckeyes on the radio on Saturday afternoons. I would also listen to Bob Uhfer do Michigan games...at leat as long as I could stand him.

With the dish, I was able to watch at least half of BG's games on TV this year. I have no problem with ESPN.

Like it was said - the rich get richer. I agree that ESPN has widely advanced the field by getting more games on, but it shows a lot in broadcast how little they care about non-BCS schools.

I didn't say the network is bad. I said their analysts "deciding" major things is what is ruining college football. I love being able to watch most any game any time - but I don't need somebody telling me that the Big 12 and the SEC are such amazing conferences or that Tim Tebow is the greatest player of all time.

Especially because the Big XII was horrible this year.
