Awesome idea!! My vote is for the '84 National Championship!!!newsguy wrote:The BG News is looking to compile a list of the top Falcons sporting events from the past 10 years http://bgnewssports.com/2009/12/top-ten ... st-decade/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Re: Top ten Falcon events of the past decade
Well, seeing I got to BG in 2005, I can't really speak for any of the games from 2000-2004, but there were quite a few good games from the second half of the decade.
Football:
2005 Temple
2007 Minnesota
2007 Toledo
2008 Pittsburgh - Pitt was ranked #25 going into this game
2009 Troy
2009 Kent State
I'm sure the 2003 NIU, Purdue, and Toledo games are up there, don't have much knowledge of the rest of the period
Men's Basketball:
2006 Toledo (home)
2008 Kent State (home) - I believe Kent was ranked #23 going into this one
2009 Miami (home)
2009 Kent State (home)
Hockey:
2006 Michigan (home)
2006 Ohio State (away) - the one where we won by a gazillion goals
2007 Michigan State (away) - think they were ranked in the top 5
2008 Miami (home) - Miami was ranked #1 I believe
2008 Lake Superior (home/playoffs)
2009 Michigan (away)
Women's Basketball:
2006 Eastern Michigan (home)
2007 Ball State (home)
2007 Oklahoma State (ncaa)
2007 Vanderbilt (ncaa) - this is my pick for #1 greatest falcon sports event from the 2nd half of the decade
2008 Dayton (wnit)
2009 Hartford
2009 Toledo
2010 Vanderbilt - the one that happened two weeks ago-ish
Two other games that ring out prominently in my mind, are Football: 2005 Toledo, and Women's Basketball: 2008 Notre Dame. Those were both amazing games in terms of how close they were and in how well the teams played, but I can't include them because we lost those games.

I know you're getting old, but you do realize that is just a hair outside the 10 year definition of decade, correct?Falcon Fanatic wrote:Awesome idea!! Gameday vs. NIU and beating Vandy to get into the Sweet 16 stand out in my mind.

Re: Top ten Falcon events of the past decade
I think it is a tossup for the bowl wins in the GMAC and Motor City Bowls. The Motor City win over Northwestern in a great atmosphere at Ford Field was great but in retrospect I would give in to the win over Memphis State in the rain in Mobile. Particularly when DeAngelo Williams now of the Carolina Panthers and 1000's of Fantasy Football teams was on Memphis. I'd go with the WBB wins over Vanderbilt (both times) and OK State for the next three.

My top 3 are:
Gameday
27-26 over Purdue
Beating Vandy

FF,
As long as we're not going to be very ACCURATE "mathematically speaking", I think the '59 Natl. championship in football... of course it doesn't fit into the LAST 10 yrs. like "yours" does... HMMMMMM!!!!

We won't be doing a top 100 list, but we are looking towards compiling a list of the top 50 events of the past century and we'll be looking for Falcons fans input on that one as well.Falcon Fanatic wrote:DOH!hammb wrote:I know you're getting old, but you do realize that is just a hair outside the 10 year definition of decade, correct?Falcon Fanatic wrote:Awesome idea!! Re: Top ten Falcon events of the past decade
Strictly events and not games I go with:
+Hiring of Urban Meyer- absolutely changed the landscape and mentality of Falcon football on and off the field allowing for huge strides in both areas that continued past his departure.
+Groundbreaking/completion of the Sebo Athletic Center
+Gameday at BGSU
That is all for now.

Re: Top ten Falcon events of the past decade
The BGNews Sports department article said the new decade begins on 01/01/2010. Since there was never a year 0, which one of the 201 decades in the AD years only had 9 years in it? It is such simple math. The first decade started in year 1. The second decade began in year 11. The 202nd decade begins on 01/01/2011.
Wait one year for this list, and be numerically correct.
