Just found this article on the Idaho Statesman website.

Attendance looks good so far, and the quote "sales continue to be "steady,'' is a good sign. I'd like to see it approach the 30,000 mark, but regardless, it should look good on ESPN.
Go Falcons!

Now, the only question that remains is how many of those have been sold through the BGSU ticket office? Don't we have to sell so many tickets through our ticket office for the game?

Article said, "Ticket sales for the Mid-American Conference School weren't available Thursday." However, if you continue down to read the "comments" being posted, they leave little doubt about which team any Boise fans who may be in attendance will be rooting for. So while we may not travel very well to this game we most certainly will have Boise State supporters on our side. BTW, the comments are VERY entertaining!

Looks like we do have to sell tickets through our ticket office. I don't know the number, but this bowl I guess has been unattractive to schools because of the ticket sales requirement.

I just hope the Boise fans that will be attending the game are ordering through our office. Otherwise, we will most likely lose money on this deal.

Unfortunately I think we'll probably lose money either way. With only a $750,000 payout and having to divide that up among the conference, I don't think we'll make much money (if any) on this game.

I don't pretend to understand the financial implications of attending the bowl games, but I know it's not a moneymaking proposition. For us it's about EXPOSURE. When Coach Clawson and his staff are sitting in a recruit's living room, this is just another chip to play when promoting the program. We are establishing a pattern of being invited to bowl games and that I think that is one way to sustain the success of a program. Football programs are only as good as the players they recruit and this gives us an edge in that process. This season our product was displayed to a national television audience 5 times-6 with the bowl game, and high school players respond to this exposure. So while the athletic department may lose money when we play in bowl games like this one there are long-term benefits. Of course we would all like to be playing for MAC championships but short of doing that every year we need to continue to position ourselves for bowl opportunities and continue to grow the national reputation of the program. Hats off to coach Clawson and his staff for making that happen this year. Especially when considering we are only dressing 50 some scholarship players. I hope he can use this season and this bowl game as a catalyst for building this program into a championship contender. Based on what I have seen, I believe he can, and I'm excited about the next several years of Falcon football!

I think it has been described on here before, but the payout goes to cover our costs first. That means that if for some reason $750,000 doesn't cover our costs, nothing goes to the other conference members. Now, the payout is reduced depending on how many tickets were not sold out of your allotment, hence why I really hope we are asking Boise State fans to purchase their tickets through BGSU.

I thought I read that we were working on a $250,000 budget for the bowl game and hoped to break even at that figure. Anyone else see or read that?

The only $250,000 figure that I heard of was that it would cost $250,000 to get the entire Falcon Marching Band to the bowl game. Sadly, that is quite out of reach for the university at this point. At least they're able to get a small portion of the band there. There will be 70 of the 240 members there.

My best guess is the Ticket Office has sold less than 300. Our $750,000 payout includes all the tickets that we are allotted. They essentially give us the tickets for free and we keep anything we sell. Our allottment was probably around 4000-5000. I'm sure we gave that back 90% of those ticket.
The previous poster was correct I if I do remember right that we are working on a $250,000 budget to break even. They are cutting cost by limited the band, cheerleaders, admin, as well as lengthen of stay.
A 30,000 attendance number would be real solid for this game. I'll guess the offical annoucement as 31,679

FJW,
Do you really think they'd set our allotment at 4-5K? Why would IDAHO only have an allotment of THREE K? Using $50 as the ave. ticket price, we'd have to sell $150,000.00 worth of tix assuming we got the same 3K that Idaho does. I'm not sure if anyone outside the ADept. really knows how all this works...I've been led to believe in the past that the 750K (in this case) would be REDUCED by whatever we didn't sell of that 150K. I know this sounds or looks like double talk but just think it thru logically, and it will make sense. Using your 300 tix sold as a theoretical figure, we'd sell $15,000 worth of tix....and they'd reduce our "payout" by 135,000.00 (135K +15K would be the 150 they wanted us to sell)

Class,
Our allowable allottment was probably around 4000-6000, with the requirement to sell 3000. Meaning if we had a good following like some bigger schools do, we could get more than we are required to sell. We may not get to keep that money as we do with the 3000 but we would have gotten a percentage for selling them.
Idaho may have only taken 3000 and then sent all others to the Boise (official box office) to buy. Since getting 10K tickets out with a small ticket office in a short time period is not easy.
They will look at the analysis of what percentage they get for selling. If they make 10% of a $50 ticket and can sell 2000 more tickets, then they gross $10,000. Subtract extra ticket staff at the game and travel to deal with problems and will call, as well as overtime or extra help to get tickets out, postage, and fees to the ticket system (usually a % of each ticket sold through their system). My guess is they don't quite get 10% for selling additional tickets therefore they release information saying they only got 3K tickets and all others should call the box office.
