Next year they will have a real case playing VT and Oregon St. early in the year. They will be loaded like no other next year. But I am with you.VDub26Falcon wrote:I wrote a blog about this.

Re: Boise State - National Champions
Great case made for the Bronco's. But since there isn't a +1 game in the BSC I would say two teams have the right to claim the title of National Champion. I'm surprised by the outcome of the game. I thought TCU had the edge this year. Just more proof why the game is played on the field.

Re: Boise State - National Champions
The program Boise has constructed is truly amazing. I really think it is a model that BG (or any other MAC school) can emulate. The school has had a long time AD, and that constant certainly helps. They're not recruiting 5-star kids. Per Rivals.com, here's the last four recruiting classes:
2009 - #72 nationally, 2.52 star avg, no 5 or 4-star athletes
2008 - #89 nationally, 2.26 star avg, no 5 or 4-star athletes
2007 - #68 nationally, 2.24 star avg, no 5 or 4-star athletes
2006 - #70 nationally, 2.17 star avg, no 5 or 4-star athletes
Their current roster lists 31 players from California and 33 players from ID and the 6 contiguous states (OR, WA, MT, NV, UT, WY). Boise has had 43 players in its history play in the NFL, with 7 being active. (BG has 49 and 4).
They don't beat their heads against the wall during OOC games. They have recently played Georgia, Oregon and will play Va Tech and Oregon State, as mentioned. However, they usually have only one "high-end" OOC game per year, though they'll have 2 next season. Most improtantly they concentrate on consistently winning their league (novel idea) which produces a high-profile bowl game every year.
It is very impressive what that program has accomplished, especially since they have only been I-A since 1996. Yes, that means that the last time we won the MAC, Boise was I-AA.

Am I mistaken in thinking that everybody has an equal chance at being the NCAA NAtional Football Champion because there isn't one?

For a team that plays almost every game against teams it should beat, they are also amazingly upset proof. They never seem to take a week off.

Re: Boise State - National Champions
I pray that the powers that be never give in and have a 32 team football playoff....I wouldn't get anything done! Even matchups in this year's bowls that did not interest me would all of a sudden be a game to watch...I don't know if I could live responsibly in that world! Maybe we should be careful for what we wish for!

They should begin next season ranked no worse than what they finish this season IMO. They lose just one starter.

Re: Boise State - National Champions
It's all going to come down to the pre-season rankings, unfortunately. If they are in the top 5, they've got a good chance. If they are at 10 or lower, there's a good possibility that we'll have another situation like this year where they never get into the top 2 because top undefeateds from higher in the pre-season rankings stayed in front the whole season.Falconfreak90 wrote:kdog27 wrote:They should begin next season ranked no worse than what they finish this season IMO. We need to get rid of preseason polls. They're worthless, and it's a travesty that this year's national championship game was largely determined by a bunch of polls done in August. Texas only finished ahead of TCU and Boise (and Cincinnati) because they were ranked higher at the start of the season. That's bull.

Re: Boise State - National Champions
I think Boise will be in the top-5 to start next season. The top teams this year lose a lot next year other than Boise and Alabama. Boise does play at Virginia Tech and they play Oregon State. If they win those two games and run through the rest of their schedule they will play for the national title UNLESS there are two unbeaten teams from the SEC, Big Ten, Big 12 and Pac-10. I think Boise has a chance to get in ahead of an unbeaten Big East or ACC team.bgsufalcon24 wrote:It's all going to come down to the pre-season rankings, unfortunately. No reason they were not last years elected champs either, why not this year, no argument can be made against them.
As far as bowls go, they should have played the Gators.
Congrats to Boise State on another great season.

Re: Boise State - National Champions
The argument against them is they were not ranked #1 or #2 in the final BCS Standings and the reason they weren't is they played a very weak schedule. It is the way the system is and the system we are going to have for the forseeable future.MACMAN wrote:No reason they were not last years elected champs either, why not this year, no argument can be made against them.

I think it was a shame that TCU and Boise played each other and they didn't get a chance to play Florida and Cincinnati. I believe it was a conspiracy to keep TCU and Boise in the same game so they both couldn't be unbeaten and they both couldn't beat BCS schools.
Why should Boise have been ahead of Utah last year? Boise lost their bowl game and Utah beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.
