Hey Falcons,any idea on how ticket sales are going up there?

Hey guys, just thought I'd drop in. I'm assuming tickets went on sale up there today, and I was just wondering if y'all had any idea as to what kind of crowd you might be bringing. I've been hanging around your board off and on for a couple days now, and I've got to say that you people seem to be some of the most genuinely (that's pronounced genu-wine to us hardcore southerners..lol) nice people I've come across on a message board. It gets so friggin' old having to constantly run smack with the local SEC morons on a daily basis.

I've read where quite a few of you aren't going to be able to make the trip, and I can definitely understand it. I had no idea that Bowling Green was in the extreme northwest corner of Ohio....you folks really are as Yankee as they come...LOL......and with the bowl game being in the southernmost part of Alabama, that's a heck of a trip. And with Christmas so close, I know that knocks a lot of folks out of making it. But I do hope to see a lot of brown and orange down there, and I'd love to meet a few of you folks.

1987alum, you seem like the coolest person, man.....I read your thread about you telling your little boy that y'all were going to Mobile, and that just made me smile. Made me think about my two little boys. They're 3 and 1, so grandma's gonna be keeping them while me and the wife make the quick road trip.

Anyway, I just wanted to drop by, get some game chat going, do a little conversing.....and whoever is coming down, I hope y'all are ready to get a little genuine southern culture injected..

Falconfan1 and Always a falcon and the sons and future daughters are going. Entire family is converging from points throughout midwest and south. We cannot wait to get there. I am getting the airline tickets tomorrow. Hotel rooms booked. Falcon stocking hats are ready to roll again. You all will love them!

I'm not quite sure anyone would know this as of yet. The ticket office probably won't release sales info. for a few days at least (though I've been wrong on one...errr...yeah, we'll go with one....occasion before).

I think that we will bring in quite a few people. I was talking with our athletic director yesterday and he said that we have a pretty sizeable alumni base in the area and there are roughly ten players from within 4 hours of Mobile, so quite a few family and friends will make the trip (Omar is from Palacka, FL, btw).

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to meeting you guys, too. I can't believe that one of your fans hasn't shown up around here trying to talk smack, and I've stopped by your board a few times and am proud to say that I haven't seen any of our fans doing so, either. You guys seem like the cream of the crop from C-USA, and might even be nicer than Oklahoma fans (they blew me away this year!).

Anyhow, no matter who wins this game it is going to be a great contest and we all might make some new friends! I've never been to Memphis before. Could always use a place to crash after the inevitable 2-day bender at Graceland!

And by the way, I will be very, VERY easy to spot at the game....

Just look for the guy with the Memphis jersey, about a dozen blue and silver beads, blue and silver garland worn around the neck like a boa, a blue M painted on the face outlined in gray, with blue glitter all in the M (....it's my special bowl game glitter... ) , and a blue Memphis hat worn backwards.....

Shouldn't have too much problem spotting me...

Thanks for the kind words. The only thing better than Falcon football is sharing it with my son. We've had a ball over the last year and a half. I hope this trip is half as memorable as our trip to Detroit for last year's Motor City Bowl!

Wait a few years and Memphis football will become that much more fun - when your boys are in tune with what's going on.

Bowling Green is one of the flattest places on earth. It looks like Indiana -- and culturally and politically, it probably *is* Indiana, but moderated by the influence of the university. Wood County seems to lean Republican, but Bill Clinton won it twice.

Economically, it is on the edge of Detroit's orbit (Detroit is a seperate essay, but I'll say this: What is often misunderstood about Detroit is that hundreds of thousands of people were lured there from the deep south and Appalachia by good jobs that required little education. That cultural legacy continues to shape Detroit).

There is virtually no industry in Bowling Green. Aside from the university, the biggest employer may be Cooper Tire, an influence that can ultimately be traced back to Detroit.

Let me put it this way: If you were to drive up, you would hear an inordinate amount of Ted Nugent, Bob Seeger, John Mellencamp and Motown on the airwaves.

Not cultural radicals, these.

I'll have to agree that BG is closer to the cultural spectrum of the Southland. Until attending grad. school at BG, I had spent my entire life in the Southeast. The FLAT land took some adjustment but the lifestyle was very similar to my experiences in the Southeast. I will say that my use of the word "y'all" did cause some comments but they were all in fun. People always talk about the hospitality of the Southern folks and it really does exist. However, the folks that I encountered at BG was as nice as any group that I've been around.

If any of my fellow BG fans get the opportunity, visit Memphis at least once. Many recreational opportunities exist and the enterainment is great on Beale Street.
