Recruiting well in... Michigan

The Detroit Free Press listed its top 50 football players in Michigan and BGSU grabbed seven of them. That's pretty good for out-of-state recruiting against four D-I schools.

Didn't know Charlie Walker was a BG verbal and it sucks...really really sucks that we had the #19 player (Manley) until Iowa poached him.

When it comes to football, can Eastern logically count anymore?

It occured to me, and it was in my post originally, that he might be trying to be cute and exclude EMU but when you are cranking out a blog called the MAC Daily its probably not wise to alienate one of those schools by excluding them. Footballwise you're right though- EMU doesn't compete for the same quality of player from what I've seen.

Are we sure that Michigan still plays D-1 football?

Eastern will get better in the next few years once their coach gets some new players in there. I know that they have been bad for awhile, but so was Ball State before last season.
I've heard a lot of talk about Michigan being terrible on this board. I'm by no means a Michigan fan, but we'll be lucky to keep them under 50 points next season. Rich Rod just rehauled the entire team, next year will be the first time he has most of his players in there. We may be able to stay in the game because their defense has been suspect, but their offense will be rolling next season.

Flip,
I went searching for the "missing" Mich. too...and Walker isn't mentioned on any of the recruiting sites, unless it's on today (haven't had a chance to look), but we list 23 kids total so far, of which 6 were from Meechigan... It's why I mentioned some time ago that we seem to be hitting the state up north much more than "usual" this year...hopefully, because it's a stronger year for Mich. FB. Mich. State seems to be the big winner in the B-11 race vs. Mich. as far as local kids are concerned.

It certainly helps that John Hunter recruits in that area. He has great contacts, having coached HS football in Michigan and just a great guy. If you haven't got to know him, make a point to do so.

That's a fair point. But, it wasn't meant as a slight against EMU. Just a fact that they're not competitive in recruiting right now. When the Eagles hired Ron English, they thought that his Michigan persona would help there right away. So far, it has not.

LOL, you're coming around to my side on this issue.

EMU Eagles football, where the perennial rallying cry is - no we can't.

Charlie Walker can play- bigger LB who can run some. There's one of those late commits coming through.
