Hats off to Toledo!
Hats off to Toledo!
Yeah, yeah, I know I might get grilled for saying it here. But being a true college football fan, I must give credit where credit is due. Congratulations to Toledo. Winning at NIU, then vs. BG and then against Miami in the MAC Championship - after trailing in each and every one of those games including being down by 20 to BG - and coming back to win all three games.....that is impressive, very impressive! These three games were against the top three teams in the MAC. The second half adjustments the Rockets made in each of these games were superb. Let's face it, being MAC Champions is where we hoped to be. They got the job done and in a fashion few could duplicate. The way they started the season and the way they ended the season leaves me impressed. I wish it were BG, but I'm not going to let a rivalry stop me from being impressed with what a team accomplished and how they did it. Talk is cheap, but over the last several years, the Rockets have been as good as anyone in the MAC when you factor in MAC Championships, Bowl appearances and wins against quality non-conference teams.
I hope next year BG finally wins the MAC. Seeing 1992 at the Doyt is a constant reminder that we have accomplished a lot of things since then, especially the last four years, but the MAC title has eluded us for awhile now.

Have to agree with you 33.
I know it pissed off some of the TU fans when Brandon made the comment about the road to the MAC West ran through BG after we won last year
. Well, now the road to the MAC West and the MACC run through Toledo.

We're in the minority on here (or maybe we're the silent majority), but I'm with you 33! I gotta respect what the Rockets have done this season and consistently done for the past few!BGSU33 wrote:Yeah, yeah, I know I might get grilled for saying it here. People can not like them all they want, but they whooped us and they are the MACC winners. Personally, I think that is deserving of some respect!
I'm not going to say "Go Rockets," but they have my respect!

33,
I agree with what you say...despite all our "bad-rapping" of the school up North, as Woody would've said, they got the job done, rather impressively...we're a more EXCITING team to watch, at least offensively, but THEY are the ones who wear the champs caps now; I'm looking forward to the day when we're all the way back...not just very good as I think we are now, but EXCELLENT!!!
In the meantime, we have to give credit where it's due.

I have to agree 33. As a BG fan, I hate UT with a passion. But does not keep me from viewing what they did with great respect. After getting embarassed those first two games of the season, they could have packed it in and gave up. But they overcame that and won three very difficult games in convincing fashion to finish the season. Congrats to UT and look out for us next season.

I think that the MAC is very lucky it was Toledo vs. Miami. If you guys would have beaten us and Akron had beaten Miami, there would have been about 89 people in those stands for the NIU vs. Akron.
Having the game on Thursday night is a mistake. Toledo travelled about 16-17,000 fans. But it killed Miami (maybe 5,000). Make it a Friday night or Saturday morning game and the attendance would be so much better.
My guess is that the real MAC Championship game was played last Tuesday. Same could be the case for next year.
Maybe they should move you guys back to the East? If it was Toledo vs. BG (and believe me, you guys would have won the East easily), there would have been 35,000 at that game.

As much as I dislike Bancroft Correctional Center (future convenience store clerks), you cannot argue with the facts. Their winning percentage over the past several years speaks for itself; they consistently win the right games and put themselves in title contention.
And this year, especially ... they got torched early in the sesaon and it would have been easy for the team to pack it up and chalk it up as a "rebuilding year." But Coach Imstufft put the Rockets (puss-excreting brain farts) on the right path and they won the games that they had to win.
Cheer for BCC (model for future nuclear waste dumps)? Nope. But you have to give the devil his due.

Casual,
The Cleve. PD had a reference to exactly what you're saying about playing the MACC on a Thursday nite.... the gist of it wasn't attendance oriented; rather that we can't be proud of the fact that the TV people didn't think enough our championship game to put it on a Saturday, when most college games are played...and since there aren't that MANY games this weekend as the season winds down, why NOT put us on Natl. TV on the weekend? Being the "only show in town" is great to a point, but not when it comes to the championship of your league!

Hats off, fingers up
Congrats to Toledo on a great season. I'll be pulling for them to beat UCONN as I am for all the MAC schools. They had a great turn around from earlier in the season and didn't quit after the first Miami game. Gradkowski is tough and hopefully he's not dumb enough to hurt himself further. He reminds me alot of Krenzel. He doesn't have the most talent in the world, but he finds ways to win games and can take some big hits.

Pointless for me to type it up, but I agree with most of what has been said here. Toledo buckled down, and got the job done.
I disagree with the way Amstutz disciplines his team and issues along that line, but I do not question his ability as a football coach. His teams consistently make the proper halftime adjustments and they win. They are the premiere program in the MAC right now, whether we want to believe it or not.
